Best value in the 2nd round: Danny Granger 33rd to the Bullets, Stephon Curry 38th to the L.A. Conspiracy, Andre Iguodala 45th to the 76ers and Gerald Wallace 47th to the Atlanta Hawks.
Worst reaches in the 2nd round: All big men. Marc Gasol 32nd to the Pacers, Tyson Chandler 36th to Sacramento, and Andrea Bargnani 45th to the Mavericks. None of these three work as the second best player on a contender, that's a set back - though hardly insurmountable - in a league as shallow as this one.
Question on Chandler though:
Would he have lasted the 2nd round?
The way I think Nick/Rondo (Rick? Nondo?) approached this is that in the playoffs this year, Dallas proved that you need bigs to compete, and as well, that Miami had a glaring weakness at the 5 spot that they couldn't overcome.
While I agree with you, Chandler shouldn't be your second best player, I wonder just how much farther he could've or should've dropped. By my count, there are precious few bigs who can do what Chandler can (which is rebound, intimidate, and anchor a defense) and just about all of them are gone now.
Not as dynamic as you want from a 2nd round pick, but you can't deny that he fills an important need about as well or better than anyone else in the league.
