If available with the Clippers pick, do we pick Austin Rivers, regardless of his dad being the head

I ask this because we're definitely all set at PG and SF, and if JaJuan plays good he would be a nice PF. That only leaves SG and C to draft for. Its a deep draft, but I think SF's and PF's will make up a lot of the top 10. I think unless we can find a breakout center with that pick, we should take Austin. He's a good shooter who could be paired beside Rondo for the long term. Even if he is behind Ray for a few years, he would learn greatly from Ray. Unless a center prospect appears and rises up the draft board, I think we should target Austin if he's available. I do think the Clippers pick will be in 2012 because the Clippers look ready to win 30-35 games this season, roughly the 11-14th pick. If not Rivers, who do you think we should target of the prospects already known? (Who knows what will happen between now and next June: Biyombo&Derrick Williams type riser?)

I actually am not sure people would like Rivers here.  He's a very ball dominant player and I don't think he would fit in with Rondo's game.

If Danny believes he's BPA, yes. If he's grows a few inches and is able to play the shooting guard I'd be all over that pick. From what I've seen he seems to be more of a scorer than a passer. IMO, If he could play alongside Rondo that would be ideal, especially if his jumper is as good as it looks.

way too early to lock in on any player for the next draft.   Let's see how this year's picks do before we determine what holes we have on the roster.  Who knows, maybe Moore turns out to be a world beater and has us focussing on getting that Center to build upon next.

we take the best player available in the draft next year regardless of position.  when you're rebuilding (and we will be), you always go for the player who you think has the best chance of being a cornerstone for the future, irrespective of positional need.

I'd pick Bird even if his dad coached.  I don't know about you, but I can't think of anything more motivating than if my dad coached me. I mean there's a guy you can't blow off. Makes you a lot less likely to bring a skank back to the hotel, right? Granted you're a lot more likely to pull off a Sprewell strangling, but that's between family.

That said, I agree with your point re: Bird (not that I think Austin will be another Bird).  You take the best guy on the board, period.  Forget who your coach is or your positional need.  Just take the guy you think has the best chance of making an impact.

Yeah, but sucking doesn't show you have great potential.  I did really well in a pick up game back in 7th grade. By that logic I should have been a top 5 pick in this draft.

I just don't understand why players that did well in college can't be considered the ones with potential over the ones that did poorly in college.

I'm still not convinced that we will have the Clippers pick next year as, if there's one thing you can count on in this league, its that the Clippers will suck, even when they aren't supposed to. A think there's more than a very very good chance that the Clippers are once again one of the 10 worst teams in the league next year.

Also, if we do get their pick, its still way too early to focus on one player or any one position. Top 15 pick, you have to go best player available and there's no guarantee that is a SG or Center or Austin Rivers.
