Delonte loves being a Celtic & the Celtics love having Delonte. While his stock is reasonably low, its in C's best interest using that leverage now and retain Delonte. Use part of the MLE to re-sign Delonte 3yr $9-10mil. The deal provides Delonte stability he needs. It's a bargain for the Cceltics retaining a player with Delonte's caliber at that price. Both parties win.

No, I don't think anyone is going to offer him a three year deal given his injuries and behavioral issues. So why should the C's overpay?

Better to keep him to a one or two year deal near the LLE or minimum.

If the price is right, it wouldn't be a bad investment.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Whether you like it or not, with the Dwight situation / other big contracts coming off the books, we probably are not going to sign anybody past this next year. I hope we do retain Delonte for years to come, but I also hope that we give him just a one year deal.

I'd start at the minimum and tell him he is definitely in our long-term plans but want him to prove we can rely on him.

If not, offer the LLE.

If that isn't enough, see what's happening with the MLE and maybe offer part of it, but not all.

Dream scenario would be a two-year minimum deal with a mutual option for the second year.

Wait and see.

I don't see any team offering a MLE or LLE offer.

Celtics need to see the rules of the new CBA first.

Need to save that MLE bullet.

The initial offer should be a one-year extension of his current deal with a maximum raise (120%).

After that, offer the LLE (assuming it still exists). If another team overbids, only then would I consider using part of the MLE.

Definately his skillset is something we really need and have been missing.

Nope.  He's got to give us a healthy season first

Why not sign Marquis Daniels to a long term deal as well?

I hope not. Undersized for his position, stagnant when running the offense, and oft injured. I would rather bring Daniels back to play the 2 spot off the bench.

Delonte earned the minimum this year, averaged 5.6 points / 2.7 assists per game, and missed 58 games.  I don't understand why so many fans think he deserves a big raise.

I like Delonte a lot, and hope he comes back.  However, he doesn't deserve anything more than the 120% of the minimum we can give him (currently) with non-Bird rights.

The last thing the C's need to do is to compromise their cap position one year out for the likes of a DWest.  A one-year vet minimum should be fine.

He just has too many issues.  He can't stay on the court, he has mental health issues, right now he is just a 1 year guy.  You can't lock him up.  It could be too harmful to the team.

I wouldn't even offer the LLE.  *Maybe* if it was for one year, but probably not.
