Portland had to make this offer.  The fact of the matter is the guy was drafted over the NBA scoring champion, and arguably one of the top 5 players in the league.  At least you can say Oden has never had the chance to show his stuff because of his terrible health, and that this should be his last shot.

I don't see him making it though.  He will be a career backup because his body cant handle all the punishment.

Oden's about as likely to remain healthy as the NBA is to start on time next year.

I think Portland had no choice really.  The last thing they want to see is Oden flourish on another team after they invested so much money in him.

This is what's wrong with the NBA, and sports in general.  People don't understand the concept of a sunk cost.

How about this trade?

Garnett, #1

for

Camby, Oden (3 yrs, 24 million)

I would take on Brandon Roy (pending a physical) for removing the #1 and adding Bradley and JO (for salary).  Hopefully JO would be bought out and could return, but even if not I still do the trade.

The second trade gives the C's the following rotation.

PG - Rondo, West, Moore
SG - Allen, Roy, Von Wafer
SF - Pierce, Green, Daniels
PF - Camby, Davis, Murphy, Johnson
C - Oden, Camby, F.A.

I think that team gives a better chance at a title next year and going forward, especially if Oden stays healthy and Roy can get even half of what he lost back (I don't think JO stays healthy and I have concerns about KG wearing down).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner
