"BUCHER: I argued this earlier in the year and I believe it still holds true: If Howard is going to leave Orlando, the New Jersey Nets are the best team for him to join because he can put an indelible stamp on that franchise simply by:

A. Choosing them over gaudier destinations and,

B. Winning a single championship.

(I'm only considering teams in which I know he's interested, thereby eliminating the Bulls and Celtics and Thunder. The choices are the Nets, Knicks, Mavericks and Lakers.) Going to the Mavericks now is a bit like LeBron going to the Miami Heat -- no matter what he does, he'll be viewed as a bandwagon jumper of sorts. Going to the Lakers means winning, minimum, three titles to stand among the franchise's previous great big men, the Shaquille O'Neals and Kareem Abdul-Jabbars, and I don't see Kobe Bryant lasting long enough to pull that off. And without Kobe, there is no championship-caliber closer in purple and gold. If Howard went to the Knicks, Amare Stoudemire or Carmelo Anthony would have to go to Orlando. Amare-Dwight is a bad fit, and while from a basketball standpoint Melo-DH could work, I don't see a leader. Dwight can have the limelight in New Jersey and be the court jester when it strikes him while Deron Williams sets the pace and provides the proper attitude."

Maybe Bucher doesn't know about Howard's secret desire to join the Cs.

He doesn't say that DH isn't interested in the Celts, he says they aren't in the list of teams he *knows* that DH is interested in.

Yeah, it would surprise me if Howard said "sure, I'll go to the Nets or Mavericks, but definitely not the Bulls or Celtics".

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
This whole notion from Bucher that Dwight doesn't want what the C's are selling is an old story anyways.

KG didn't want to wear green either.

Nope, KG just believed us to be the best option he had out of Minnesota.

Howard will have other options to be sure (so did KG), we should make sure the C's are one of them. Even if the C's dont' get him that's the best way to rebuild the team.

As far as I am aware, the only things Howard is on record saying is that he would love to play with a guy "like" CP3, he wants to win, he will not be signing a contract extension, and he is dead-set on becoming a free agent.

I don't see how this in any way implies he wouldn't be willing to play for the C's.

I don't believe that there is any realistic chance of Howard coming to the C's unless they trade for him (and he might just walk in 2012 if they do), but I also think I know as much about this as Ric Bucher who is consistently clueless on these things.

May seem like a case of "shooting the messenger when you don't like the message" but Bucher is probably the least clued in of any NBA insiders. I can't go much further than this, but I've been told that he lost the respect of many execs by publishing downright false information and rumors in the past.

I dont think Bucher knows Howard's intentions at all.

With that said, I dont think that he will want to come to Boston unless we are able to obtain a superstar ofr him to play with, first.

From what I've gathered he's more connected with certain players "camps" than players or teams themselves.

So he ends up publishing what entourages feed him.

People have been saying this for a while now.  Howard has made several statements about only going to a warm weather climate and that he PREFERS Los Angeles.

Now, I am not a scientist but Boston is not a warm weather climate, at least not for another 20 years, and its not Los Angeles.

BTW this was a fairy tale back when Howards name was being talk about a year ago.

Celtics will have to rebuild through the draft.
