Can we afford to get him? If so, maybe KG could start at center, DW at the PF spot, and JO off the bench?

No way we could afford him. At least he'll probably sign a 9mil a year deal somewhere.

Pre-injury, yes. However, he'll be 32 soon and coming off knee surgery. Giving him multiple years at 9M will be a mistake.

If D.West did decide to accept an MLE offer, due to a lack of better offers, would Boston be his first choice? Do the Celtics offer the best combination of minutes, shot attempts and chance of winning a title?

If they promised him they'd move Garnett to center, I'd think so. If I'm Danny Ainge, I'd point to all the open mid-range attempts Glen Davis was able to get in our offense to show him how he'd be able to thrive here.

Some other possibilities outside of Boston
  • An up and comer like Oklahoma City who need firepower and a jump-shooting big to complement Durant and Westbrook which would make them a true contender.
  • Another old team, San Antonio, trying to make the best of their last chances for a title. They'd offer him a starting position which Boston might not be willing to do.
  • Orlando -- start at PF alongside Dwight Howard. Adding David West could help Orlando's management sell Dwight on a long term deal.
  • A personal preference -- I don't think this has a chance of happening, just wanted to mention it because I think they'd make a fun big man combo -- I think David West would be a really sweet complement to LaMarcus Aldridge. Two highly skilled offensive players. Use Camby as a sixth man and backup center.
  • The lure of New York to play for Mike D'Antoni alongside Melo + Amare with Amare starting at center in a small ball lineup.

I think New Orleans, Indiana, Sacramento consider giving David West a larger than MLE offer.

I also think Detroit and Milwaukee may get involved too.

It'll cost too much money for the C's to afford (above MLE) and I think he's a terrible fit for this Boston team.

I can't see the C's getting him for the MLE.  I think they need to focus on getting a Center before adding another PF.

Giving David West the money and years he wants doesn't fit into Danny's Summer of Howard plans so there's no chance he lands here. I think I would rather have Carl Landry, West's team mate in New Orleans, anyway.

With him and Carl Landry leaving NO, maybe we can sign and trade BBD to them. Any desirable players we could get in that exchange from NO?

I don't know. I'm not a big David West fan myself, but if you think about all those attempts Big Baby got in this offense, and how absolutely automatic David West is from 12-15 feet out it's hard to not see it as a good fit.

Obviously, he didn't opt out of his contract to accept the MLE. But if he was available, I'd love to have him.

I don't see Boston signing him but if he leaves NO, that may start a cascade of events where NO blows it up and accepts a trade of Rondo+Green+Picks+... for Chris Paul.

Now that I would like better than signing West or even waiting and hoping for a chance at Dwight Howard.
