The Pittsburgh Press is reporting that Gilbert Brown is likely to sign with the Celtics when the CBA smoke clears. He liked his conversation with Ainge and Ainge was suportive of his chances. I gather that the decision for the 2nd Rd pick was between Brown and Moore but the Celtics still liked Moore.

I gave my support for Brown before Moore was picked. He is not the ball handler that Moore is but has a big time NBA body and is a pretty good athlete. I don't think he reached his potential at Pitt due to the style of offense. He has good all around skills but not a "go to" skill. He has shown signs of being a good shooter but never became the designated shooter because they had shooting little men. He is definitely willing to give up his body on defense and doesn't shy away from contact in any way. I hope it works out as he could develop much quicker than the younger players.

Where'd you see that on the news?
I seen the highlights, he's good. Looks like he could play the 2 or 3

I have watched him play many times and he was often a man among boys because of his body. He is slighly short to guard the taller NBA 3's but could handle the regular size ones. And he can also guard the bigger 2s but not the super fast small 2s.

not the football Brown-laugh. Think Pierce size.

He is a little bigger in the upper body now than in the clips.

IS the only reason this guy went undrafted because he was 24?

I think that age was a big factor in him not being drafted. However I think the biggest reason was that he isn't known for being the superstar at any one thing. He can do most things well. He is a good shooter but he doesn't light up the gym on shot after shot. He plays good defense but isn't a shutdown guy. So on and so forth. He will never be a "star" in the NBA but he could be very very useful as he also has no major weaknesses. And he will continually cause people to underestimate him as he can run, jump and has pretty good body control. (and leaving him open can be a major mistake). And leaving him open on a drive can be an even bigger mistake as he is a serious dunker.
I think the reason people got a little down on him at Pitt as they expected him to be Paul Pierce in his prime and he was never going to be a superstar. Just a solid player.
I get irritated when all the people want a young player to be Michael Jordan and get overly down on him when he isn't. It causes a lot of older players to be underated.

That and he wasn't some mysterious foreign player. Gilbert Brown is a lot better than all of the projects picked from parts unknown in the second round. Also see David Lighty and Ben Hansbrough.

To me, Brown is also A LOT better than Jon Diebler who offers only one skill and is a poor athlete.

TP to you and the guy who put up the Ytube clip. I am glad someone agrees with me about having guys that can play are better than vague projects (unless they have some serious skill level).
