Final year of Pierce contract

Pierce makes 15.3 million in 2013/14 season though only 4 million is guaranteed, and becomes 5 million if Pierce plays in 50% of the teams games in regular season and playoffs.

If he is not waived on or before june 30th 2013 it becomes fully guaranteed. If we waived Pierce we create cap space so we can sign another free agent, I will get to that later.

If this is the 2012 offseason.

If my calculations are right our payroll should be 56 million in 2012 if we sign all our picks and we signed Howard to 15 million.

Now the following season we are not able to sign a high caliber player unless Pierce is waived and resigned to some of our cap space.

The guy i'm targeting is Josh Smith, with waiving Pierce we create 10-11 million in cap space if the proejected cap is 62 million, according to my calculations we could give as much as 10 million to Smith that year if resigned Pierce to 3+ million contract, if all pieces fall into place we could have Rondo, Smith, Drummond, Howard our 1sts in 2012 and 2013 and other picks and vets, that team is going to be HUGE.

It's hard to imagine Danny being willing to waive a career long Celtic who will have spent 15 years at the club by 2013.

Cause Pierce and management agreed it would create cap flexibility for the Celtics in case Pierce wants to retire after the 2013 season

I don't see Pierce hanging around into the rebuilding process.

If he wants to hang around for a chance at another ring if we did get Howard I would hope he would opt out so we could sign somebody like smith then resign for for veterans minimum.

I hope everybody knows our chances of getting howard is pretty much zero %  right?  Unless by some miracle the magic do not trade him before the deadline.  If they do let him walk for nothing after watching what lebron did they are the most idiotic franchise in the history of the NBA (well maybe next to minnesota)

But I highly doubt Pierce is waived. His game keeps evolving to keep his productivity at an All-Star level. In two seasons he may not be as great as he was, but he will still be great.

I doubt the magic will trade him unless there is some team that howard REALLY wants to go to...likely he sees his offer in the market

and I would say our option to get him there is higher than 0%...theres only going to be a few teams he can go to...and we'll have enough cap space to give him a max-contract...and enough peices where he could contend right away...

I think with us wanting to maintain all this capspace...dannys plan is to more "rebuild" through free agency and trying to attract big FA's to boston...rather than through the draft...so, technically we have a pretty good chance of fielding a decent team in 2012 rather than a team of drafted rookies....Doc didn't sign on here for 5years if he didnt think we would at least field a competitive team relatively soon.

and with guys like Josh smith, OJ mayo mentioning boston as a destination theyd want to go to...I think we should be able to attract decent free agents

You haven't seen one game from Moore and half a season with Green. He was the main piece in the Perkins trade and now we traded him for nothing? You haven't even gave these guys a chance and act like your the GM by expressing they are "not part of our future". I think that is Danny's decision not yours to make.
