It seems like everyone is assuming that Big Baby is definitely a goner. Is this a foregone conclusion?

I hope not, but I think at this point he may be at his closest to leaving.

Just my take on it, after reading his comments a few days ago.

No, it shouldn't be.  We would be lucky to pick up a replacement as good as Davis, and what we need is more big men, not less.

What I'd like to see is  a new bigs coach.  Got to light a fire under Davis and other young bigs.

Definitely not a done deal, unfortunately.  I'd put it about 50/50.

Not foregone.

But, man, would it be awkward having him in training camp. There'd have to be some serious fence-mending.

I think the fact that he had a lackluster season in '10-11 cracked the door open for a possible return to Boston.  I thought headed into the past season, that he was a goner. Its gonna come down to $ and what/if the organization is willing to pay him.

I still think its far more likely that he'll leave than stay but not a foregone conclusion that he's gone.

Tonight will play a role in how this whole thing unravels.

The sad thing with Glen's potential departure is that our bench would be awfully green, in a bad way.

Ersan Illyasova (potentially?), Jeff Green, Delonte, Wafer (hopefully), Murph?

Who would be the leader of that pack? I'd love for it to be Glen Davis, but I'm not sure he'll be back.

Well with his me first playoffs and dumb comments I don't see how his teammates could stand ANOTHER davis "issue".  Last time he shopped himself I think he got quite an awakening about his true value.  Since that time his mind has him being a pf starting caliber nba player  ::)
I guess it boils down to at what point do his teammates, coaches and mgt say enough of this "baby"?

I hope he goes. His me first attitude and him not being mentally prepared for the playoffs has soured me on him. I would rather take a chance with a rookie or a D-Leaguer who will know their place and give a good effort.

Depends on the offers that he gets from other teams. Realistically without him we have KG, an injured JO and a tweener in Green. We'd need to add 2-3 rotation-level bigs. The odds on us adding 2-3 players better than Baby are fairly low. I'm not sure we should be in a huge rush to see him hit the highway.

Agreed.  I am not excited about him returning, but from a practical standpoint, keeping him around makes it significantly easier for Danny to put a contender on the floor again next year.

He could be, but Celtics fans shouldn't lose sight of Big Baby's contributions to this team over the last four years as well as his importance to the 2nd unit.

For a player of his lack of height (for his position) and athleticism, it is truly amazing that he can score and defend as efficiently as he does. While you can argue that Baby fell in love with the outside jump shot a bit too much, he has a post game. He is a clever scorer with his fallaways, post up shots, and has soft hands which allows him to convert on lay ups even when there is coverage (easier said than done since most bigs are stiffs).

Don't forget that he was also a 6th man candidate last year. I'm not saying he ever had a legitimate shot at winning the thing, but he was a candidate.

Even though there are plenty of more athletic, quieter lunchpail type of bigs that would do the hard work at much less maintenance, we take for granted exactly how skilled Big Baby is. He is even a matchup problem for teams because of his diverse offensive game. Combine that with all the charges he takes and effort he's shown he will put in defensively, I'm not ready to say goodbye just yet. I'd like to see him back only because I have seen an improvement in his play over his career. There is an argument that I concede to that he needs to play within his limits more, and that is a coaching issue. Because I think once all the nonsense is corrected, he is an asset.
