So, if not rust, what really happened to Murphy? I mean, he went from being a pretty good shooter and hard nose rebounding big man to zip. He's not that old, not injured (except for the ankle thing he got). Everything points to him being able to contribute as a backup big for this team. They need more rebounding...check. They need a good scoring, stretch big off the bench...check. Granted, he's not a defensive stalworth. I think he's definitely worth another look, of course for the right price.

Just because he isn't technically injured any longer doesn't mean his former injuries didn't cause permanent effects.

Don't agree with this statement. Not sure what you are saying about Ray's play since his ankle surgery. Took him a while to recover, but he is 100%. Any deterioration in Ray's game is from father time, and not that much I might add....

I think he is definitely worth a shot.  He simply was out of shape and didn't play much last year.  Danny brought him on because he's a legit 6-11 and can hit threes.  I don't think those qualities have left him.  Plus, he's white and he's Irish and since Gody was traded the C's have a need for one of those at the end of the bench.

are you referring to Ray's ankle surgeries from a few years ago?

I couldnt remember if it was his ankle or knee - but he missed about half the season in Seattle before coming here

Murphy hopefully will have a grant hill rebirth and give us great minutes at pf backup.  He has a true jumper and rebounds better than most on our team.  Can't explain last year, if his legs are gone he should be a smart enough player to compensate.  If he can be the indy player or close why oh why is davis being condsidered at all.

.  I think we have the defensive big men to get the best use out of Murphy.  Both KG and JO can cover for him somewhat defensively and he can provide them with solid support on the boards.  Offensively, he’s a brilliant fit with Rondo and the Big 3.  He never got his jumper going last season, but if he regained his shooting form, there aren’t too many offensive line-ups more potent than that one.

Not sure Doc was too enamoured of him, though.  I think he’s too uncomfortable with his defense to include him in a rotation (his past stretch 4s – Scal and Sheed – were much better defenders).

    He's worth a shot provided it on a vet minimum contract.  He could potentially revert to his form of two seasons ago which would be a nice boost to the Celtics bench. 

I'd take him at that price over Glen Davis because in Glen Davis' own mind he believes he is worth a whole lot more then he in reality.  He is likely to get more then Ainge thinks he's worth from someone.
