It's obvious (based on rumors) that the Lakers are shopping Gasol.

It seems there was a rift between him and Kobe in the playoffs that was alot worse than people realized.

Now keep in mind, I think the Celtics and Lakers are IN VERY SIMILAR situations right now.

Both are storied franchises that could be looking to make moves to stay relevant while transitioning from their current roster to the 2012 and beyond era.

So, would both teams ever consider a trade? What do you think it would take to land Gasol and wouldn't it be awesome to have him and KG on the same team?

Would Danny ever consider trading Pierce to the Lakers, as he's originally from L.A.?

NO NO NO NO

we cannot trade Pierce...what is Jeff Green going to be starting then?

then whos going to be first option on offense, definitely not Green

i rather take Gasol if we trade some bench players away, but our starting 5 stays put...

maybe Allen, but Rondo, Pierce and KG should stay in green

Not only would we have to look as Gasol's face in a Celtics uniform....but we'd have to see Pierce in a Lakers. I wish there was a vomit emoticon.  But since there isnt, thinking about the combination of those two things...

If not for sentiment, I would trade Pierce for Gasol in a heartbeat. Green will be fine starting and Gasol would start at the 5.

Moot point though. I don't see how Kobe and Pierce together makes any sense and it would be a move that would leave a bad taste in the mouths of all Celtics fans. I don't see LA making Orlando style panic trades.

If we are only talking about wins/losses, I think the celtics have to consider any trade for Pierce or Green that brings back an equally talented center.  The reason why is we have way too many potential quality minutes (about 65 or so potentially) that can be played at SF, but we don't have really any quality minutes at center.  If we could trade one of those two guys for an equally talented center, we have to consider it because we will suddenly have quality minutes being played at every position for the majority of the game.

Even though Pierce is way more of a celtic than Gasol is a laker and it makes far less sense from a PR standpoint, this trade makes way more sense for the celtics from a basketball standpoint.  It does not make as much sense for the Lakers basketball-wise, so it wouldn't happen.  But it would make the celtics a better team.  We'd be a ridiculously efficient and incredibly unselfish team.

Yes, we traded for Gary Payton recently. Heck because he refused to report initially we even got some of what we traded back from them iirc.

We also got Tony Battie in exchange for Travis Knight some years back.

I semi disagree with the poster's sentiment that the Celtics and Lakers are in VERY similar situations. After next season, the Celts are set to clear tons of salaries off the books and be much more flexible to adapt to changing their roster under the next set of rules/guidelines after the lockout.

Taking contracts into account, the Lakers are stuck with a bunch of larger longer term deals. Kobe will be paid $30M in 2013/14, Gasol $19M that same year. Odom, Artest, Steve Blake(!!!) and Walton add to the Laker's potential issues when it comes to contracts down the road. They might get stuck based on rules of the new salary cap. It will be interesting.

Just saying that the Celts, given the timing of the lockout and the timing of all these contract expirations, might be in FAR better position.
