sure he really had no impact whatsoever in boston since his signing(where he was touted to be the coveted buyout free agent) but his lack of playing time this past season REALLY showed and he never got into a rhythm...just last season he was averaging a double double...and he should come pretty cheap since I doubt alot of teams will want to spend on him because of his lackluster playing/time played this season...and he chose us over Miami because of our "find the open man" playing style.

with our need for bigs at the 4-5 and having alot of playing time to offer, maybe we should give him another shot? he certainly could play at least as well as Kristic....hitting the open J and grabbing rebounds for 15-20mins if he can get himself into NBA shape

Did Doc ever give him a first shot?

He wasn't bad, should have gotten more minutes. I would love to have him back. More in game shape, can rebound and spread the floor. He can be the 3rd center in the depth chart

This guy can shoot the ball. If Troy had those pick and pops BBD missed all season long the C's would've been better (no disrespect to Davis' game, he just missed a lot of those shots.)

He can play the 4 or the 3. He's not a defensive known guy though but still, a scoring threat off the bench. I don't know why Doc kept him in the doghouse. I'm all for giving Troy Murphy some minutes.

I don't think he gave anyone any reason to think he can contribute on a high level again.  On the bright side, the C's should be able to retain him for very little $$.  A good risk if the dollars are small.

This is one of the biggest questions of the offseason. A sad fact at its face, but one that is a fact. Will Troy Murphy come back at a low price but contribute at a MLE level?

One hundred percent agree. The bigger question ought to be would Troy Murphy give US another shot. He didn’t get a fair shot due to not being 100% and the timing of him coming back. Had Doc given him BBD’s minutes and let him play out the rest of the regular season and gotten back in the flow, he would have really helped us in the postseason.

If he’ll sign for a reasonable price then by all means we need to do it.

It's too bad because there was a time in Indiana where he was very solid and no joke

Could he ever go back to even near what he was capable of is the question nobody knows....

I think he took him off as soon as he made a mistake. It's hard to earn Doc's trust.

Sure, for the vet minimum.  Doc's not going to have too many bigs who have been exposed to his system already, so Troy would go from being disadvantaged to having an advantage on that front.  Also, I'm hoping they add a rookie center and a rookie PF, and they'll have to trade or do a good signing for another center anyway to go with KG and JO, so Troy could be a third-string vet.

I think the options for veteran bigs that the Celtics can afford are going to be minimal so I'd give him a shot for the veterans minimum.  He was a very productive player only a short time ago and he's not too old so there is a chance he returns to that level or close to it.  Ideally I'd like someone younger and more athletic but if Murphy can show that he can still rebound at a high level he's worth a shot.

I don't think it was really mistakes.  The guy couldn't hit a shot.  We knew he was going to suck defensively, but we expected him to at least put some points up.  I don't expect much out of him next season, but there's worse vet min options.
do it
