Why is there a discussion on how to help the Lakers?

I think people just like discussing rumors.  It's not like Mitch Kupchack is scanning CelticsBlog looking for ideas.  (Chris Wallace, maybe.)

Because school is out, there is no NBA, no NFL off-season, regular season baseball sucks and I am really, really, really bored.

Exactly. TP

Getting rebounds for a guy his size is quite easy when you play no D, especially help D.

I would personally do the deal for Gasol in a heartbeat if i were Minny, only if they made other team changes though. If the Bogut rumour were true, you could unload Darko and Beasley for some decent value, and have a front line of Bogut and Gasol - arguably the top C/PF combo in the league.

Add in a guy like Rubio, and the T-wolves have the ability to play up tempo, as Gasol and Bogut are both fairly mobile big men with good motors.

Also, they would be a great half court team.  Bogut and Gasol are both excellent pick n roll/pop big men, with Rubio or Ridnour playing the point.  Add in a a couple of sharpshooting wings and you have a solid team.

Players like Darko, Beasley and Flynn are all on good length contracts at good salaries, so these types can easily be moved.

A guy like Stephen Jackson would be an ideal fit.

Bright future in Minny if Love gets shipped though

Although it's quite the strong statement and there's some good company up there, I might say so (see my post on page 2).  His skills aren't even close to that of a building block for a championship team.  It's not like he has a lot of untapped potential either.  He's looking like he'll be, at best, a 3rd banana on a contending team.

Love the dig on Wallace.  Although, he has done well to build a good, young, up-and-coming team now.  Might just be luck though, who could have guessed Z-BO would turn out to be such a stud and a team player.

One thing I'll say about Minny trading away Kevin Love is that if they have any plans to trade him ever, now is the time.  His trade value is never going to be higher than now.  He is 22 years old, just put up 20 and 15 and broke Moses Malone's double double record.  You sell him on having done that at only age 22, but in reality he'll be extremely lucky to have 2 more seasons of stats like that in his entire career.  The reason Love put up those kind of stats is because he had a garbage team around him.  He is not talented enough to put up those stats on a team talented enough to be over .500.

Maybe Kahn realizes this and is why he's looking to swing a deal involving Love while his value is so high.

Perhaps, but that doesn't mean you give him (and a top 3 pick -- even in a weak draft) for a 31 year old borderline All-Star when you're still rebuilding.  Makes no sense at all.

If anything, it makes more sense to hold onto Love, continue to suck, and hope that you get that #1 superstar in the draft so that Kevin Love can be the great #2 he absolutely can be.

Make no mistake: Kevin Love is a very valuable player.  You don't put up those kinds of numbers, night in and night out, with that level of efficiency, without being a very good player.  There are two reasons people are quick to dismiss his production: 1) the T-Wolves lost a LOT of games and 2) Love is white and unathletic.

Reason 1 can be explained by the fact that the rest of his team was almost complete garbage; if it weren't for K-Love, the Wolves probably wouldn't have cracked double digit wins.  People would probably really easily forgive the first reason if it weren't for the second one.  Remember how many people were high on Durant a few years ago even though his team was terrible?  Or how about how much attention Blake Griffin got this year for putting up huge numbers on a terrible team?

It actually kind of reminds me of the way people often overlook the success of Duncan's teams because Duncan (and Ginobili, Parker) has always won with fundamentals, defense, and finesse instead of highlight-reel athleticism.  Also, like K-Love their personalities match their style of play.

All of this is not to say that K-Love is a superstar, or that he is by any means on the same level as Duncan and those others.  Obviously, his lack of defense is an issue; however, I think that the question should be what kind of players Love needs to have around him in order for his team to succeed rather than whether he is really a player that can be a major contributor on a winning team.

For that reason I think this "rumored" trade would be an absolute steal for the Lakers because Bynum is EXACTLY the kind of player that K-Love needs to be partnered with.

Kevin Love + number 2 pick + Beasley + rights to Rubio + ... is not enough to get Gasol.

Pau Gasol is a laker, so I dislike him, but he's the most skilled big man in the league. He's the main reason (alongside Joey Crawford, of course) for the back-to-back Laker titles.

Kevin Love to the Fakers? Please, do it! And if Minny adds Beasley and Flynn, the Lakers can add Odom to the trade... great.

Would you rather have Gasol or Kevin Love in green? No #2 pick would sweeten the deal. Just my opinion.

I'd rather have Gasol on the Celtics . . . but that's only because I think he'd give us a chance at a championship now, and a better fit with our current squad.  If you're asking me who I think is more valuable over a longer period of time, the answer has to be Kevin Love.

A swap of Kevin Love for Gasol makes very little sense for Minnesota and would allow the Lakers to be relevant for many years to come, assuming they hold onto and continue to develop Bynum.  Love - Bynum with Odom and of course Kobe as complementary pieces for the next few years would be very formidable, especially if they can find a point guard capable of both scoring and distributing the ball (as much as I hate to consider it I think Steve Nash would be a good fit for them).

why would we want to add another soft player like Gasol to our team along with Green and Kristic. we are going backwards here.

besides that, i could not stomach Gasol in Celtic Green.

I wouldn't trade Love straight up for Gasol.

Would the Lakers consider Lamar Odom and that terrible contract that is Luke Walton for Baron Davis and JJ Hickson?

He looks like he can be a good second banana to me.

Who was the Mavs second banana by the way?  Marion?  Kidd?  Terry?  Love is far better than all of those guys at this point.

Tyson Chandler was the Mavs second best player by a large margin.

Their third best player was Kidd with JT and Marion fighting it out for the fourth and fifth seats.

Tyson Chandler won them game 2(?) with his amazing offensive rebounding.

I have Shawn Marion as their third best player for his overall defense and bail out offense.
