Dallas Mavericks Coach Rick Carlisle said after the Mavericks won the championship, in answer to a question about why he made JJ Barea a starter, that along with Jason Kidd they needed another playmaker to deal with the Heat defense. When he said that, I recalled how much better a playmaker, ball handler, and layup maker among tall players that JJ is than Ray Allen. Ray Allen is the best spot up jump shooter and has a good mid range shot, but he’s not a playmaker or much of a ball handler.
