Rondo, Avery and Ray

For

I like it..but I don't see why NJ does it and also throws in a first.

I can see why Boston trades Rondo for WIlliams and throws in firsts (still a net negative value for Williams) if NJ decides they cannot resign Williams and wants Rondo's locked up deal instead..but I don't see how NJ thinks they should throw in some 1sts as well.

I figure the only way this happens is if Williams will not sign with NJ.


The 1st is for Ray who helps them be a playoff team as they try to win.

I think this could be a legitimate option if Williams won't resign in NJ.  The problem of course is convincing him to resign in Boston.  I would still do it though.

Boston has a history.


Long term and short term of being able to put winners on the court. 

The chance to play with Pierce and KG.

Which means a good chance at a title next year which makes it easier to stay with a team.



And they don't play in NJ right now.

No. I am completely disregarding any trade involving Rondo... Why would we want to trade him, especially for a guy thats going to be a free agent. Terrible.

He's a better scorer.  That's about it.

The upgrade in talent from Rondo to Williams is not nearly enough to be worth disrupting our chemistry and downgrading from Allen to Morrow as well as losing one of our only trade chips in Bradley.

I also don't really understand it from the Nets perspective unless they know Williams is a goner.

No he wasn't.

He was under contract for 2 full seasons, 2007-08 and 2008-09. Ainge wouldn't do it without a guarantee of more. He signed a 3 year extension that's up after next season.

If Ainge wasn't moving Big Al for two seasons of KG, then there is absolutely no way he is sending Rondo off for a season of DWill.

Even if they can't get him to resign, I might roll the dice.  I think Williams is good enough (and Morrow can do a good enough Ray impression) that this move would give them a significantly greater chance at winning this season.  That, in itself (along with a potential franchise player contract thing in the new CBA) might be enough to keep him around.

And, even if it isn't, I am OK with starting from complete scratch in 2012, with even less money on the books.  I just don't have much desire to watch Rondo on a rebuilding team.

That had more to do with the amount of players we were giving and the teams needs after the trade. We couldn't spare a point guard and we needed a pass first guy to distribute the ball. I highly doubt Danny knew Rondo would be as good as he is now.

This may be nitpicking, but I am not sure they meant they wouldn't trade Rondo for them.  I think there is a very strong chance what they meant was that they would not have added him to the package. 

In other words, if it was Rondo instead of Al Jefferson going for KG, they probably would have been OK with it.  But, not Rondo instead of Gerald Green.

Also, I think it was directly in relation to Seattle asking for Rondo instead of Delonte West for Ray...and that is something they said no to.  They might have agreed to send him rather than the draft pick though, if that is what it needed to get done.
