Be contingent upon finding a rebounding Center 4 MLE e.g. Samuel Dalembert. Baby can comfortably slide to his natural position the Power-Forward where he excelled the most last season. As long as Big Baby isn't forced to play the Center (You listening Doc) extending Big Baby one year would be a wise decision.

Reserves
Delonte
Avery
Green
Big Baby
Dalembert

This provides a draft flexibility. With the draft, Danny Ainge can go in two directions either roll the dice on a project Center like a Jeremy Tyler or an insurance policy for Delonte West draft a Reggie Jackson.

I'd bet that Ainge would extend Davis for another year.

The question is whether Davis would accept that. I don't think he will, not without playing the field and seeing what other teams might offer him.

A one year extension would be ideal, but there is almost no way Big Baby is going to take that. No matter how bad he was in the playoffs, he had a decent season and should be able to net close to 5 mil/year for 3+ years on decent team.

I think its a tough sell, but it is a possibility.  It all depends on how the landscape looks when they find out the new CBA, but if Danny can convince Davis that his best way to get paid is to play one more year here (and play better down the stretch this time), I think it could happen.

Davis certainly did not finish off the year strong, and perhaps teams might shy away from giving him the money he wants this summer.  The key is going to be convincing him that he can showcase himself better on the C's, going deep into the playoffs, but with few minutes, than on a team where he might have a larger role, but they don't get the publicity.

a 1 year extension won't hurt us one bit.  Not sure if Davis will bite nor do we know if it will work with the new CBA.

If Danny plans on going for another run, he MUST sign Big Baby or find a great substitute and that will be hard to do. Personally IMO, 4-5 mil/2-3 year deal is more than reasonable.
And I agree with the original post that he needs to play his natural position in order to be effective.

The only extension I'd give BBD is an extension on his pants waistband...

I don't think I could take another season of Baby thinking about an expiring contract , and therefore trying to pad out his numbers with optimistic jumpshots

I'm all for BBD getting 1 more year. But he better play like the BBD of 2008. But I'm not sure BBD will be okay with just a one year extension. He may get some better offers from other teams (maybe). Will the C's be able to resign Jeff Green using his Bird Right? Or do the C's need to offer him the MLE? I don't know. If the C's can sign Green Bird RIghts and BBD asks for more money, then just offer an MLE to Carl Landry.

Yes please.

I know CB is down on him - but the chances of us finding two bigs better than him this off-season on one year contracts isn't very good

This.

Of course, he did play well in the 09 playoffs, and the season after, but he's played "turrible" since I can't remember when.

Unless there's a reason that explains why he was trying to find his role last season, and how things will be different this one, I'd rather have the 2008 Troy Murphy.

If they can work a S&T, that would be huge.

I'm torn on it for both the C's and BBD.
C's will have difficulty filling all the holes on the bench and signing BBD would be a known commodity in this system and shouldn't require the MLE to sign him.  I wouldn't go more than 1 year though.
I can't see BBD doing it for 1 year UNLESS he's worried the CBA will kill his chances to sign a long term deal for the money he wants so he takes a 1 year deal to gauge the best way to work the new CBA before it goes into effect.  I'm not sure he can do that though

Part of that conversation will be that there's the opportunity for 30MPG for him here, if he's in shape and can handle it.  KG shouldn't be playing more than 30 minutes a game, and there's plenty of time at the 5, too.

I'm sick of Baby Davis, but I'm not sure what the better alternatives are.  Gotta remind myself, too, that I was pretty sick of Tony Allen about 12 months ago as well.

EDIT: I'm going to keep saying one other thing, too, until someone convinced me I'm wrong.  I know KG hates it...  but I think this is the season they ask KG to take one for the team and play some more at the 5.  The easiest solution to the C's frontcourt woes is for KG to play some of the minutes at the 5, which would let Baby play more at the PF spot.  You'd still need to bring in another couple bigs, but if KG's willing to do that, sure seems like it's be a HUGE help to the team.

Why reward the player who more or less has cost us two championships?

I maintain that if Perk hadn't gone down in game 7 or if we had a legit backup for him instead of Davis, we would have won this year and last.

Davis = worst Celtic ever
