I am wondering how the Mavs are going to retain CHandler, Barea, AND Butler.

Makes you wonder which one is gonna go all Posey on them and buck. Probably Barea.

Yeah, I think Barea is gone.  They have Beaubois coming back, and I think they will try to get a more traditional SG/SF as well (perhaps it will be Butler).  Barea seems to be the odd man out...and I could very well see him ending up in Miami, if they can afford him after addressing center.

I think Barea stays along with all of Dallas' other key free agents (Tyson, Caron, Stevenson).

I don't think they are convinced enough in Beaubois' play to let a key contributor on a title winning team go + I don't think anyone makes Barea a huge offer that Dallas would be unwilling to match + I think Dallas is Barea's first choice unless someone offers him a starting job somewhere which I think is highly doubtful.

JJ Barea will require a salary increase. Likely up to $3-4 million.

I think Tyson Chandler and Caron Butler take slight pay cuts. Tyson down from $12.6 to $11.0-11.5 million and Butler down from $10.6 to $8.5-9.0 million per annum. I also think Stevenson's pay drops from around $4 million to $3 million. Those decreases in pay will more than cover Barea's increase.

I don't think Dallas has a financial problem in re-signing all of their free agents + any hard cap or decreases in spending will likely be phased in than brought in immediately in order to avoid top teams gutting their rosters.

Chris nailed it. Beaubois is the key. He'll be healthy next year, and his ceiling is a lot higher than Barea's. It's the smart play for the Mavs.

But, just like the C's have searched in each of the past 3 yrs to find a player to replace Posey with middling and temporary results, the Mavs are going to find if they try to just slide in Beaubois for Barea that it may not be as cut and dry as it may seem.

Oh yeah, they can certainly afford them all.  I just think they love Beaubois, and by locking up Barea longterm, it might block him a bit, particularly with Terry still there.

I can understand why Butler takes a paycut, but Chandler?

He was the Mavs' 3rd best player in the finals, and probably their second most important player this year

$12.6 million is a bit high for Tyson Chandler. Not a lot but a bit.

Especially given his age and the probability of decline later in the contract + Dallas ability to give him a 6 year contract like they gave Haywood.

Probably something like $65-70 million over 6 years.

Mark Cuban is not one to shy away from writing a big check. I guarantee he offers Chandler more a higher AAV than he previously had. So Tyson thanks for helping us get our first title want to take a pay cut?

I think if he signs right now, he can get that, because Dallas will pay the premium to not let him test free agency.  However, if he waits for the new CBA, I think you are right, and he will be taking a pay cut.

Tyson will get his money. Mark Cuban will pay him that money unless it's too ridiculous of a price. Caron on the other hand would probably be available but highly unlikely. The Mavs showed they can win without him, but Peja will depart too so they'd need another wing.

Trade Ray Allen + Draft Pick for Barea and Chandler

That trade makes no logical sense for Dallas whatsoever

On the other hand, I think both teams might consider a sign and trade based around Ray for Butler.  Way would fit in perfectly in Dallas, and Butler would give the C's a bit younger legs (although the fit next to Pierce probably isn't great).

Yeah, I think Dallas would be very interested in that.  Teams can ALWAYS use more shooting and Ray is expiring.  Caron is kind ff the odd man out after sitting and watching his team win the Finals so I don't see them wanting to make a long-term investment on him

Don't we already have our backup SF, though?  As I recall, we traded our starting center for him.

Maybe we need to trade our current backup SF for a new starting center though!
