The Mavs are going to have to pay Stevenson, Barea, and Chandler.  Therefore, they might not want to overpay to keep Caron who is recovering from and ACL tear.

Would they match the MLE?  I doubt it. Caron just turned 31 and would be the perfect backup for PP and could play spot minutes at 2 as well.

Thoughts?

As much as i wanted Danny to spend the MLE on a decent Big,your proposed idea sounds tempting.

Remember the trade rumor last year of Ray Allen + others for Butler and Jamison?  I'm sure there was some legitimacy towards it since WAS ended up shipping out both players.

I'm not sure what DAL's cap situation is like.  I'm sure they can't retain everyone.  But Butler is worth much more than the MLE, injury or not; as is Chandler.

JJ could be had for under the MLE and the Matrix would probably command most if not all the MLE.

Of all the DAL FA's I'd say Matrix would be the most realistic target.

Marion's not a free agent.  Dallas' important free agents are Barea, Chandler, Stevenson and Butler.
do it

Im sure he's going to command 8-10 million a year...but if he'd come to us for the MLE; Id be happy with that over even bringing in the big we need

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
We wish.
He's looking at at least 8-9 million.

caron's a legit 2 way player. no chance he's had for the MLE. dallas might not be able to resign him (they have a pretty huge payroll already), but somebody will offer him more than the MLE.

I believe you are correct.  I read it in this article which appears to be wrong: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/734074-nba-rumors-post-finals-buzz-and-predictions-from-around-the-nba/entry/95638-nba-rumors-mavericks-want-free-agent-caron-butler-back-for-repeat

No.

Bostons offense is predicated on ball and player movement. Caron Butler is one of the biggest ball stoppers in the league. plus he is coming off of knee injury.

No thanks

He is an intriguing option.  It is unlikely he will be available for the MLE, but with the new CBA, strange things could happen.

I think there is a scenario or two, where he would look to hook up with a team like the C's on a short-term deal, in the hopes of earning a bigger one, once he proves he is fully healthy.

I think teams like Chicago would have the inside track on him if he does look for something like that, but you never know, perhaps Ray's UCONN connection can be used to convince him that he will have a big enough role here.

Yeah he's not an MLE guy. I dont care though, I think hes incredibly overrated. Id like him as a back up 3 but I personally wouldn't even sign him for the MLE. Especially since we already have Jeff Green. Out of the Mavs free agents I would prefer CHandler the most, however, he is probably the least realistic. whether we have an interest in him, which is rumored, or not.

Not an MLE player.

Now if the Celtics could sign and trade Green for him, I am all on board.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I am wondering how the Mavs are going to retain CHandler, Barea, AND Butler.

Makes you wonder which one is gonna go all Posey on them and buck. Probably Barea.

Mark Cubin?

No, I expect him to sign everyone back and go for it again.  There are no other "future chances" with Dirk and Kidd.

Yeah, I think Barea is gone.  They have Beaubois coming back, and I think they will try to get a more traditional SG/SF as well (perhaps it will be Butler).  Barea seems to be the odd man out...and I could very well see him ending up in Miami, if they can afford him after addressing center.
