This off season is a huge one as, at the very least, it will make or break us for the next two seasons.

I don't really hate Danny that much. He had reasons for his mid season blunder. My heart sank when we got eliminated against the Heat but it was Danny that brought us the Big Three.

There are so many threads on what we can do to get back into being contenders. Here's one on the bad moves that, if Danny makes them, will get a lot of fans mad and/or destroy the Celtics.

Pay too much money to free agents and destroy the 2012 cap flexibility.

Jeff Green + MLE signing that two main concerns. BBD a secondary issue.

Yeah I agree if he over reaches for veterans on the back nine instead of skewing younger for guys playing into their prime, like a Jeff Green, then we're in for a very bumpy part of the decade, and he's likey not to survive it.

There's several things that would anger me.  But I'd say the most likely & simple way that Danny could tick me off is by re-signing Glen Davis.  The longer the contract & more money tied up in him would make me exponentially angry.

Two things.  Trading Rondo and resigning Davis to a long term contract/for too much money (anything over $200/week, lol).

I still p---ed over the midseason trade so without a title this year to console me, I'll stay angry in the offseason.

He could make it worse by:
* not finding a quality center in the offseason (if one can even be found)
* not finding a quality PF off the bench (BBD needs to be replaced by someone that can rebound and defend the position)
* not finding a quality backup for Ray that Doc will actually play (I think Wafer could do the job if on the court with West and Green but will Doc play him.  Daniels isn't a bad option but his chronic health issues would make me reconsider signing him even though he played well for the C's last year)
* not finding a quality backup PG that can cover for when Delonte goes down for his annual injury
AND last but not least
* screwing up the draft this year (which is the thing I'm least worried about because this is the one part of his job he seems to excel at).

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Over-paying glen davis and jeff green is pretty much it, and given danny's history, its more likely they walk.

straddle the fence.

Don't rebuild but don't maximize this years title chances.

At this point, frankly, it would probably be impossible for Danny to disappoint me.  Picking up Rondo and the Big Three (Big Two, really) were such big moves that worked out so well, but he's been riding on that glory for a while now, and The Trade will go down in history as one of the worst moves a GM ever made.  It was a flying leap over the shark.

Basically, I'm hoping for no big moves.  I'd like to see him fill in as best he can with what is available.  I'd be very unhappy if he let Baby or Green go, but I'd be equally unhappy if he overpaid them.  I hope he threads the needle there.

Basically, we still have a strong team, if you overlook the gaping hole at the 5 that we are trying to stuff Jermaine into.  The Big Four are still the Big Four (though rapidly turning the corner, it seems).  With Baby, Green, Delonte and Wafer we have the makings of a strong bench corps.  I think Doc is stale with this team at this point, but we could do worse, for sure.

But here's what Danny could do that might earn him a ticket out of my doghouse:  he could make it his personal project to make sure, as much as is humanly possible, even if he has to camp out beside Rondo's door, that Rondo works like crazy on his shooting this summer.   I don't think it can be stressed enough that the single thing that could have the biggest impact on the Celtics 2011-2012 season is for Rondo to come back a significantly better shooter.  I mean, NOW is the time for Rondo's efforts to improve in that dept. to reach critical mass.  THAT would be the best way for Danny Ainge to spend his summer.

And, btw, I still think Rondo should spend some time working on a hook shot and a Rick Barry diaper shot from the line.  The diaper shot is really a two-handed scoop shot, and a hook is really a scoop shot turned upside down, so I think that they might seem a bit more natural to him than the classic Mark Price shooting that he is trying to master.    I don't think Rondo will ever be a great set-shot guy, but he can become much better there, with Price's help,  and he can also work on improving his range for shots on the run, and his range of options around the basket, especially if posting up is something he wants to continue to do.  I think we all feel strongly that this kid has a real scorer inside him, waiting to bust out.

  • Larry Bird for President
1, resigning glen davis
2, wasting a draft pick on a guy they never use ala avery bradley
3, not resigning west
4, standing pat trying to cobble together a bench out of the scraps.

Trading away any of the Big 3 or Rondo, like so many posters on these forums seem to think is a good idea.

I am pretty indifferent to Baby's fate. I like him, and he played exceptionally well in last year's playoffs and most of this season, so I wouldn't have a problem with him staying on if he isn't overpayed. If he is traded, then, well, I hope we get someone with value. For all of the knee-jerk anger out there over Baby's playoff play this year, he is a good player.
