He would probably be a top 5 player in this league.  I'd have to say Rondo is superior to JJ in every facet of the game excpet for shooting.  You need to stick JJ on the perimter cause he can shoot everything including the 3 ball.  It opens up a lot of driving lanes for himself and passing lanes to teammates.

But for all those saying Rondo's shooting flaw isn't that much of an issue becaues of all the other things he can do, this just shows how much better he can be, and what' stopping him from truly being an elite player in the league.

If JJ Barea could pass and defend like Rajon Rondo, he'd probably be a top five player in this league. ;)

seriously though Rondo needs to add a 3point shot to his game. Celtics could use the spacing

How about we just bring JJ back to Boston and see what he can do as a true Sixth Man.

You forgot rebounding, and running an offense.

spacing is important. i wish Rondo did have that shooting. JJ isn't a great shooter but he can shoot. Oh, and the aggressiveness too. Too often this playoffs, Rondo is just poking and poking at the D without really looking to score. Teams played him for the pass and sagged off him on D.

You're missing the point, JJ needs quite a boost to get to Rondo's level.  Rondo is just missing one facet of the game, although it's quite a major one.

  • Rondo = Good
If Dwight Howard could shoot like Ray Allen, he'd be the best player ever.

This is a fun game!

Yeah, completely different players.

JJ is fun to watch but he also makes you cringe at some of the obvious plays that he doesn't make/see

Both statements are true. His shooting isn't the issue you'd expect it to be because he excels at so many other facets of the game, and he can be much better if his shooting improves.

Before Rondo was injured he was averaging 17/7/11 in the playoffs. In 2010 he averaged 16 a game, in 2009 he averaged 17 a game. It's simply not true that he doesn't look to score in the playoffs.

Yeah, completely different players.

They are both undersized (though JJ extemely) players who rely on speed; their best offensive is attacking the rim, both hustle players.  Obviously due to JJ's size he's going to have more trouble rebound, defending, and passing.

I see JJ as a very poor man's Rondo.  But the main point is Rondo will never be dominant and elite (like many expect him to be) unless he can shoot.  All teams are going to start crowding him in the paint and he becomes a liability on the offensive end of the floor.

For those who watched most of the playoff games, LAL OKC MIA all had trouble guarding JJ because they had to respect his outside shot, and then he burned them going to the rim.

We've seen Rondo dominate many games and play at an elite level, both in the regular season and in the playoffs. Saying he'll never do what he's shown the ability to do already seems a little silly.

I have to agree on this one. If Rondo had the offensive skills JJ does, he would have to be considered the top point guard today.
