Does anyone think it would be a good idea for the Celtics to get Robin Lopez? He is an RFA after 2011-12 season so Danny could keep his flexibility in the 2012 offseason and I don't think PHX really needs him anymore. It probably wouldn't take much more then our 1st round pick this year, and maybe a future 2nd round. If not Robin, who else do you think we could target?

True. I'm not sure what else they could offer Phoenix. If the Celtics really are committed to going after Dwight Howard they might want to have a backup center in place so Dwight knows he wont have to play 42 minutes a game, and Robin could be that backup.

What Indeed was essentially saying is why would Phoenix make that offer?  Why do people think everyone in the league is in business to help the Celtics succeed even if it is to the detriment of their own team?

There are 29 GMs in the league trying to beat the Celtics, not help them.
We all think we know more than we really do....

I think any offer for Lopez has to include Bradley, and/or a future 1st rounder, perhaps even the Clippers' 2012 pick.

Phoenix won't just give away a young, cheap big man.

The 25th pick alone i think will not be enough. They'll probably ask for more future picks or players. Maybe they'll bite if Celtics give this year's and next year's pick. Highly unlikely though.

I haven't seen anything out of robin Lopez to even make him worth while chasing with anything of remote value.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I'd give them all our picks for Marcin Gortat- he would be awesome in the paint with KG.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

The Celtics will be relegated to finding back up BIGS with the LLE, MLE and Veterans Minimum.  The really scary part about that we're depending on JO's ability to stay in the line up so whomever we get is almost certainly going to start some games.  We just don't have the assets to swing any kind of major trade without taking on salaries that will cost us the flexibility Ainge seems to covet in 2012.

Resigning D.West should be a priority and that may take away some of our options as well.  Miami(and New York) will almost certainly be looking at all of the available BIGS as well and they would seem to be a more enticing option(s) then Boston since their Big Three isn't nearing the end of the line like ours is.  Getting the best bargain basement players like we have these past few seasons wont be as easy this time around because there are more teams with title aspirations.

We dont have a serviceable Center. Forget about JO filling that position for any indeterminate amount of time. He just dont hjave the legs anymore. How much more proof do you want. There is a saying "There is no worse blind man than one that does not want to see". We dont have ant tradeable pieces that will get us a first rate Center either thru trading or on the draft. And you still think número 18 is just around the corner?  Now the bad news.........

The bad news, for some, is that we *do* have a good shot at banner 18.

We have to get a starting center. It is without question the most important job Danny has this off season.

I get a little worried when he says stuff like "the league is going in a different direction." To me that could translate into "I'm not certain I can get a solid center."

how exactly the league is going in a different direction I don't know. All of the Final 4 teams this year have a solid center rotation.

MIA doesn't even have a solid starting center, never mind a rotation.  Joel Anthony might have dominated the boards at times vs the Celtis but so does every other team.  He wasn't even the starting C during the regular season just in the playoffs.

It would certainly take more than the #25 pick ($954k cap hold). Phx. has a $4m qualifier on Lopez in 2012-13, but Carter comes off at that point and they'll have plenty to cap space to make a decision. Small price tag says the Suns hold on to him for this year. More likely they to move Pietrus or Childress (owed $30m over the next 4 years).
