If I were Ainge, I would swing for the fences and select Jeremy Tyler. Huge upside potential/bust potential. I'd even trade up to get him if I had to.

I have this recording of stern (intentionally lower-case)in my head saying "With the 25th selection in the 2011 NBA draft, the Celtics select Jeremy Tyler from Tokyo Apache of the Japanese League."

So I would use the pick on Tyler and try to buy a 2nd rounder and select another big like Benson, Greg Smith, Jujuan Johnson, Jon Leuer or Lauvergne.

With their 2nd pick in the second round, Hopson, DeAndre Liggins, Lighty or Schumpert would be good to look as well as that guard Anderson from Richmond that they worked out.

jeremy tyler. gosh i had totally forgotten about him after he made news a couple of years ago, so i had to google to see what he is up to. playing pro ball overseas, no college ball, left high school early....

but...

supposedly very talented and 6'11". but who can tell with a 17 year old? which is when he was rated. it is now is hard to say how he would pan out since his competition level and coaching is impossible to judge relative to the nba.

what the heck, if ainge takes a flier on tyler, it might turn out after all. :) i remember ainge gambled on perkins and it took about 3 to 4 years for him to really blossom.

tp for bringing up someone i had forgotten all about.

best option at this point is keep the pick and acquire another 1st or high second rounder for cash.

I think we should add an option of using the pick and either trade exception, or maybe JO to trade for a rotation quality veteran.

It's a major longshot, but I don't think it is any more unlikely than some of the other options.  Particularly with the TPE, they could go after someone like Ben Wallace, Rudy Fernandez, or Anthony Tolliver.

I think the most likely option is to just keep the pick, but given the number of holes the C's have to fill, this route could be very enticing if Danny is not in love with anyone available, and a team is willing to take the pick for a useful veteran.

If we could use the pick and Avery Bradley to move up ; that'd be best case IMO

None of the above.  Use the pick along with a player (perhaps Baby) to trade for a center.

Duly acknowledged and fixed (added). +1

I'd use the pick to select the best player available, regardless of position.

It's always a debate about who is the best player available, of course.  I'd opt for the "proven player" rather than "talented upside".  i think the SA Spurs have been great at this in the past, and DA has had some success as well.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Will keep the pick. Draft a young big (i don't care if Doc does not play rookies, the C's need a big).

Jeremy Tyler, Nikola Vucevic, Keith Benson, Jordan Williams (he's not that big but he plays big) will be the order.

Use MLE for another big or a wing if I can't sign a big man.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

This is probably what I would do too.  Take a shot at a big man, who can be some emergency insurance at the end of the bench, and potentially more down the road.

Ainge has said in an interview/conversation with a radio station that he thought this draft was weak and basically as of right now did not want rookies filling up the bench right now. So that tells me that he wants proven, young players who have played in the NBA or maybe trade up to get an NBA ready player early in the draft. Taking into consideration that he has been known to trade the players he drafts I think he will either trade up somehow to get better talent or just pick at 25 and then trade that player to a team for someone else who can play a bigger role.

Don't believe a word Ainge says about the draft or any moves he might make.

I think there will be players that can contribute who will be available early in the second round. These are not guaranteed picks so Wyc should trade up or just buy one. May not be worth trading up in the first round of this draft unless there is a Big that jumps out at you who can contribute right away. I don't see it; but wouldn't rule it out.

As long as the BPA isn't another tweener.

Exactly.  In fact I'd re-define "best player available" as "best player for this team that is available."  The Celtics need size to eat up regular season minutes, which can hopefully contribute to the post season too.  The last thing this team needs is another player who is not built for their position in the NBA.
