  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
It's hard to say if he's looking to make a monster swap with jeff green+bradley+a pick.

If he's seen that the clippers are interested in a fast wing player (ie iguadala), he could possibly float bradley+green+pick for Deandre Jordan or Chris Kaman.

OR he's trying to move Bradley+ the pick for something. ( is that a higher pick or a player?)
His thinking must be
*i've got to get some pieces to give this big 3 a real shot against Miami and Chicago in the playoffs and the only way we can do that is by signing some monster power forward or Center.

I would not be surprised if he went after a top 10 center now that Curly Krstic is gone to Russia.
My first guess would be Kaman- since the Clippers are looking to get rid of him.

He's probably got his sights set on some project two guard in the 2nd round whilst trying to grab a big guy with the pick+a current player on the C's.
Actually, that trade with the Clips sounds fairly plausible.  I don't think it goes far enough though for the C's to really benefit.  Ideally (IMHO) in that deal, BBD would be thrown in and we'd get both Jordan and Kaman.  C's could pick up a backup wing with the MLE and have a pretty solid frontcourt rotation with KG, JO, Jordan and Kaman.

I'd love to agree but I don't think the Clips give up both big men for jeff green+bradley+baby and pick.
They'd be left with Griffin and...? guarding the paint?
Deandre is the beast of their future and Kaman is arguably one of top 6 to 10 best centers in the league.
If they were going to give up two players it would be either Jordan or Kaman(more likely) PLUS some kind od decent but expendable wing player (which would help us too).

Re-reading what i just wrote I doubt they give up deandre in any kind of deal like this ever.
Kaman most certainly.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I agree that it's not likely to happen but I consider Kaman's contract as the negative in the deal.  For the Clips to move Kaman's contract, they'd have to part with Jordan.

Besides, if they move both of them, they may finish with a pick in the top 10 of the lottery, thus keep their pick instead of giving it to the C's, use it on a terrific prospect and then also be able to sign Dwight to play with Griffin.  (never happen but maybe Clips management has lofty dreams  ::) )

Sounds like he's just trying to keep expectations low for the upcoming season.

He's a fairly smart guy ; he knows we're not going to be in position to compete for a title
How exactly are we not in a position to compete for a title?

Ainge: "We're as good as the teams playing in the Finals right now. We have a great chance (next season) with our guys right now."

I like this quote.

I agree with him, Boston were just as good as the two teams in the Finals this past season. A little bad luck with injuries and some quality performances from Miami. Very little difference between a second round exit and another Finals appearance for Boston this year.

I like hearing that Danny Ainge has that outlook on the team's ability. That he doesn't think there is a sizable gap between the three sides. That Boston are right there.
What's he supposed to say, I don't think we can compete for a title the windows closed?

Danny could say that we have a lot of work to do to get back there.

That the C's need to improve their roster to get past those teams and back to the Finals next year.

Instead, he said the team was just as good as the ones still playing in the Finals.

Why would he say that? Clearly it isn't the case.

If he said we have a lot of work to do to improve the roster and then he isn't able to substantially improve the roster he looks foolish. Now he said the Celtics are good enough to win, so if he substantially improves the roster it seems even better. Classic PR, set the bar low so when you clear it, people are impressed.
DKC:  Rockets

Saying that the team as currently constituted is just as good as the two teams in the Finals and has a great chance next season is setting the bar low. Really?

I think that is raising expectations. Not lowering them.

Yeah if you have a contending team and are declaring it as one you are putting pressure on yourself to add complimentry pieces as a GM.

I wouldnt be surprised if Ainge is throwing a double bluff.

Could it be that he really is aiming at throwing either s&t Baby or Green and Bradley at Golden State along with picks for Monta Ellis.

They then move Allen and Pierce to the bench and have

Rondo
Ellis
Garnett
Green
JO

Pierce
Allen
Find the others accordingly.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I think the fact that he's talking is proof enough that he's plotting something. It's hard to put a filter on all the crap Danny throws at you come draft time. What I took out of it is that we are going to give this team one last crack. Whether it's because he legitimately thinks we are a contender or he is just biding his time until 2012 is anybodies guess. I would however be surprised if Danny doesn't pick a different route as opposed to the usual broken down vets.
