I don't think running a business is easy...small business included.
If the NBA and its owners are losing money then they need to get the heck out.
If not for the players, there is no product.
I am not sure I follow. Are you saying that owners need to sell the teams if they are losing money? Do you think they are simply running the team poorly?
I think if there are franchises losing money then they are not following good business practices and should sell their shares or they should hire someone who knows what the heck they are doing.
Fair enough. I think a lot of people feel that way. Personally, I think, while this is the case with some of them, the system also makes it incredibly tough to have "good business practices" in small markets, and not lose money.
In the current system, it is very difficult to balance putting a quality product on the floor, with keeping costs low. Some teams have pulled it off, but they are the exceptions, rather than the rule.
So, I think the answer is somewhere in the middle. Yes, owners need to do a better job of running their business, but there also needs to be some significant tweaks in the system, to keep it from being a case where you need to have high revenue to compete.
