Why would we rebuild by trading our best young talent for what would at best turn into a lateral move?

But why would you start rebuilding by trading away Rondo? Wouldn't you start rebuilding by trading away the guys who couldn't see you through the rebuilding process like KG, Paul, Ray and JO?

I've pointed this out in other Rondo to the Cavs trade threads, but Cleveland still has Baron Davis under contract for a few more seasons.

BTW Stylo, I'm not against starting the rebuild now, I just don't understand why you trade Rondo of all players now.

well rondo is our best asset therefore we'd probably get more for him compared to kg or allen (paul wont get traded)

We'd get the best draft pick for Rondo, but I think we'd get a better group of players for Ray or KG. I guess I'm of the opinion that the best that trade could work out for the Cs is a lateral move ( although the Rondo and JGreen for Varejo and the pick makes a bit more sense if you don't give up the 25th pick.) and that I'd rather use Rondo as the only building block when we strip things down.

You liked what you saw of Irving in college?

What, all ten games of him? Are you kidding me?

Rondo has shown championship tenacity and talent over 5 years, holds many Celtics passing records, has been the MVP of this team in two different post seasons averaging nearly a triple double in one post season run against playoff competition(14games, 2 more than Irving's entire college career) and is only 25 and you want to trade him for Irving?

If you said KG for Williams and Varejao I could almost wrap my mind around that. Ray Allen for a player and a top 3 pick i could almost understand.

Rondo for the rights to Irving? I just don't get.

If you're talking about rebuilding, the concern should be about future value, not what you get back immediately.

So, compare the value of Rondo three years from now to what you might get for him three years from now.  Then compare the value of Garnett or Allen three years from now to what you might get for them.  Rondo will probably still be a top point guard.  Garnett probably retired.  And who knows with that freakish physical specimen known as Jesus Shuttlesworth.

What the team needs to do is acquire players who will be stars in the future.  Trading Rondo doesn't increase the number of the stars on the team in 2014 or whatever your target date is.  Trading Garnett or Allen might, if they bring back a young player with upside or a draft pick.  You would have to seek two such assets in exchange for Rondo (plus filler).

??? uh  ??? trading a 2 time nba allstar a champion for a college player who has yet to play a single minute in the NBA.  ??? If the goal is to destroy the franchise there are easier methods to go about it. ??? Again what is wrong rebuilding with Rajon Rondo??

???
?

As Danny Ainge stated trading Rondo is out of the question. If they do change his status, I assume a possible Rondo trade would be to upgrade (superstar) and not to destroy the franchise.

Why would you trade Rondo for a guy who, in a perfect world, becomes a guy on a level with Rondo?

okay on the same level as rondo would be superb then becuase irving still would have something rondo may never have ...a jump shot ..i always felt if rondo had a jumpshot he;ll be the best pg in the league by far
