With 25th pick the Boston Celtics select JaJuan Johnson. A power-forward out of Purdue. Kevin Garnett backup and Celtics future starter @ PF next to Dwight Howard  ;D.

Combine measurements

Height 6'10
Weight 220
Wingspan 7'2
Vertical 38"
Reach 9'
Body Fat 7.5%

The Big Ten player of the year, Jajuan Johnson led the Boilermakers to 26–8 record. Stats: 20.5ppg 8.6rppg 2.3bpg. Jajuan head over shoulder ahead of all big man in this draft offensively. He improved each year in college most noticeably his Jumper. He can step to the college 3point line and knock them down with ease. In the post, Jajuan go to move is the turnaround J ala KG. A polished NBA ready game. So you might ask yourself, why isn't he a lottery pick? Well the NBA draft isn't too kind to 4year college player. GMs choose potential over a sure thing. Jajuan is a sure thing. He does need to bulk up some but that is pretty much it. A close comparison is mix between Marcus Camby & Taj Gibson. Jajuan wears Jersey #25, Celtics select #25. Its destiny.

I almost started a similar topic myself.  Love Jajuan Johnson.  I like your Camby comparison also, that was the first guy I thought of when I saw his tapes.  Albeit, an inch or so shorter.

It's funny to me how scouts and draft analysts are concerned whether he's big enough to play the 4, yet apparently Markieff Morris can play the 4 or the 5 and the guy is like 6"8.  Full disclosure:  love both of the Morris twins as I went to KU with them.  But ya, totally love Johnson, he's a mix of Camby and a more polished Hakim Warrick, although def not nearly as physical as Taj Gibson.  I think he could have a Gibson like impact immediately and absolutely be a starter in the league when KG hangs em up.

Nice post.  TP.

Also he earned a college degree right? That's worth something too. He managed 15 bench reps at the combine, so he has sneaky strength. One of the knocks on him was his supposedly weak frame but he put that to rest.

You are no longer black, or brown, or yellow, or red! You are now GREEN, you are light GREEN, or dark GREEN!

If the scouting reports are accurate, he sounds like exactly the kind of player we need.

He was on TV alot.....my only question would be about his rebounding....seemed to like to be outside

Would not be unhappy with a Purdue connection.....Johnson in the first and Moore in the second

I'm leaning towards Johnson myself.  Although I'm still thinking that Tyler has the most star potential out of that group, but he probably also has the most bust potential.  He's still a wild card.  I also think Leuer will be a guy who can contribute right away.

I would be happy with any of those three.

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I like JJ Johnson, too!

As I've posted elsewhere, Johnson, Benson and Tyler are the three bigs that I think the C's will have a shot at drafting. Benson is too skinny, Tyler is too raw, and  Johnson is just right.

I'd love for Danny to be able to grab 2 of those 3 and then Hopson in the 2nd. If the C's buy an early 2nd, he might be able to do it.

I like Benson in the mix, too.  Also, there's Greg Smith who looks like he'll be around late in the second.  I'm also intriqued by the young Frenchman, Lauvergne, who has popped up on a couple of draft boards lately.  I'm guessing he'd be one of those stash in Europe for a couple of years guys, though.

after reading his write-up, I wouldn't be dissappointed if they picked him.  sounds like he's got the skillset that'll get him as close to seeing the court as a rookie will ever get under Doc.

sounds like a good solid player for the post-big 3 era.

Like I said I absolutely love JaJuan Johnson and hope Ainge picks him.  However, curious, has anyone here watched a lot of Purdue games?  I live in big 12 country (student @ KU) so don't see a ton of big 10 games, prob seen him 2 or 3 times.... just was wondering why the knock on him is his rebounding when he pulled down nearly 9 boards a game.  That is the 1 thing about him that concerns me........  Anyone??

The reason I mentioned his rebounding was that he played outside a lot....9 rebounds is hard to argue with, but that was my perception.....needs to add some muscle

His teammate Moore has a Courtney Lee type game.....and like I said yesterday, we could do alot worse than that combo

There was another thread about Jajuan Johnson a month ago in which I professed my love for him, and that hasn't changed (although Jeremy Tyler's leaping abilities despite his pudgy frame make me want him too.)

I'm a Michigan fan primarily, but that means I watch other Big 10 teams as well, and I've seen him play a fair bit.  In college he was a good rebounder.  He added range to his jump shot in his senior year, which moved him outside a little more than his earlier seasons, but when he was a sophomore he was almost solely a post player, and he was a decent at it.  There's certainly the possibility that he can fall in love with the jumper, like many a big man in the past, but I wouldn't consider that a given.

The rebounding concern I think is less based on college stats (as mentioned, they were about 9 per game, and that was in the big 10 which tends to have slower offenses and fewer possessions/rebound opportunities) and more on his thin frame.  In college, where he was often matched up against smaller/less athletic players, this wasn't a problem.  But his athleticism isn't off the charts, and he isn't big, so that might cost him battling for rebounds against larger/more athletic competition.

Still, he's a hard worker, a good defender (more blocks than fouls last year) and is definitely the most NBA-ready player who might be available when we draft.  If we want someone able to give us 15-20 good minutes off the bench this year, then we absolutely pick Johnson.  He will never be a star, but we're talking the 25th pick in a weak draft year.

That description, to me, sounds a bit like a Darrell Arthur type player. A thinner body type but similar game.

Would that be a decent comparison for JaJuan Johnson?
