Well I will be doing it with the bands for now don't have the funds to get free weights at the time. But thanks for all the info. Keep it coming everyone!

One thing to consider is to check garage sales and stores that sell used weights. You don't need a lot for this. Free weights will give you greater results.

free weights are definitely better. you dont even need heavy ones....a simple set of 10lbs dumbells will do wonders. checking yard sales is a great idea. even check walmart, as they have low prices on free weight dumbells.

Hey I'm thinking about starting this, getting married in 110 days, so a 90 day workout sounds right up my ally  ;D

A couple of quick questions for those who have done it:

How many days a week is the plan? Is it every day? 5 days straight?  Every other day, etc.?

How long do the workouts tend to be?

I plan on doing this in my apartment, what pieces of exercise equipment do you need?  I understand you can use free weights or bands (and it seems every recommends free weights), anything else?  Pullup bar maybe?

What's the nutrition part like?  Is it simple stuff that's realistically easy for a guy that's terrible in the kitchen to prepare, or is it complicated stuff that will have me in the kitchen for hours preparing all these meals?  Or could I go to most stores and get prepared stuff?

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

If you've worked out intensely for some time before (military, regular gym member) you will enjoy this and find ways to improve. If you don't work out a lot and want to jump in, you will get your butt kicked. You can make your own schedule to a point for total workout time and days worked.

Most important thing*** is to keep track of your progress and try to improve. Otherwise you plateau like a normal workout. The workout is designed to counter this by changing the workouts and gradually getting harder.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I wish I were the sort of person who could get into doing weight workouts and that sort of thing, but I just don't think I am.

I stay in shape by trying to run on a regular basis.  My goal is to run the marathon this spring.

Yes I have tried it.  I started to work out about 3 days a week when I was in college.  I kept with that for about a year after graduating and then decided to cancel my gym membership to save some cash and try out the DVDs.  One of my roommates has them and I borrowed them.

I got through about 9 weeks of the 12 week program.  It's alot of work and it's tough to stick with.  For someone who only works out casually before trying out this program, that first week you're going to be VERY sore when you wake up each morning.

I know for me, I found myself skipping a day here or there, skipping an exercise or two, but thats ok.  Don't overdo it, work to your personal pace.  I imagine it to be extremely hard to actually keep with the official p90x schedule.

After 9 weeks, I definately feel healthier, definately more definition in my arms and my chest.  However, I'm not one of those guys from the info-mercials that automatically looks massive with big arms and a 6 pack after completing this.  Alot depends on genetics, body type, and diet.  Emphasis on diet, don't think you can eat fried foods every night, do this during the day and think the program will be a success.

I have a couple people at work that have been doing it for about 3 weeks now. Decent results already. Just recovering from knicks and bumps in the knees and shoulder from skiing, and I plan on starting it up tomorrow afternoon.

Someone should make a sub-category or thread dedicated to this to help motivate one another to push further.

A lot of those guys in the commercials are what you call models who don't even use the products.  It was that way with bowflex you know.

Like anything you'll get out what you put in.

Personally, I love getting out of the house and going to the gym.

Yeah I agree with you.  Most people who get on these gimmicky programs aren't dedicated which is why they are looking for a shortcut in the first place.  P90x is great if you stick to it.  Most people I know who try it don't stick to the diet part.  I don't care how much you work out, if you don't follow a good diet program also you will never lose weight or get toned or cut.

I was planning on doing this workout, but my trainer suggested doing the Men's Health Spartacus workout instead until my body was stronger.  I guess this program was designed from the workouts used by the guys on the show Spartacus.=)

Its about 12 - 15 moves with high intensity but low stress on your lower body.

The reason was I had played college BBall and over seas for a couple of years in Japan and Australia where I blew my Achilles tendon and then screwed up my opposite knee overcompensating for the tendon injury.  I do yoga regularly, Power and Bikrim, and my trainer felt the work outs for P90 might be too difficult if we did not work up to that level of intensity.

I still plan on trying P90x, but after more time working the Spartacus workout and more yoga.

If you feel you need to prime yourself like me, try finding a solid power yoga teacher (LA people that is 2nd street in Santa Monica), the routines are difficult, you will be worn out after and its good for you --- Plus I am regularly the only guy in that class - a 20 to 1 female to male ratio is well, awesome.

Just an FYI - I played college and pro football, and am a very competitive person. Once I was done playing, I was looking for a way to quench my competitive drive. Two of my good friends are trainers at a crossfit gym. They convinced me to give it a shot, and I've been hooked now for the past two years. The workouts are unbelievably intense, but most of them only last 5-20 minutes. Trust me though, if you do them on a regular basis (3-4 times a week), you'll be in amazing shape. Check out the website crossfit.com to learn more about it. They have video demo's of hundreds of workouts on there. It's completely free, and many of the workouts require no equipment at all.
