So if they choose to move Howard before losing him what can they get? Anyone have any trade ideas that match salary with Orlando??

I do and it involves the Celtics (surprise)!!

Howard, Turkoglu & Duhon is about 32.5M in salary.

C's send a S&T package of Krystic ($6M (A 10% raise)), Big Baby (~ 5.5M) and Jeff Green (5.9M), Avery Bradley (1.5M) with the retiring contacts of Jermaine O'Neal & Shaq (total 7.6M) plus 25th pick, 2012 clip pick and 2013 C's pick unprotected. For a total of 26.5 million (125% of which is ~33M the max salary we could take back).

This gives the C's Superman and the best 5 in the game (Note the pun: as in starting 5 players and player starting at 5).

Magic get back three younger players 27, 26, 24 at reasonable salaries/contracts who have all started in this league. Plus the potential of Bradley and three 1st round picks. Not a great return but it beats nothing in 2012. Not to mention is dumps 2 bad contracts and frees up 7.6M in cap space immediately.

Back to reality, it is a pipe dream but a fun one to ponder. I don't know enough about other teams to know what other package would work or offer more value, but there is probably something better out there.

If I'm Orlando, I'm actively seeking out a trade.

Orlando is probably entertaining offers but other teams can offer much more than the C's can (particularly that package you put together -- no offense, but it's not very likely to do more than get a laugh from Orlando's front office).

Clips are a team, as an example, that could put together a much better package in terms of appeal for Orlando AND more appealing to Dwight in that he would be paired with Blake Griffen.

Think of a deal starting with a S&T Jordan, Kaman and Aminu for starters.  Also, any picks they throw in are more appealling from the Clips than the C's.

It really depends on what things will look like after the new CBA.  Who knows what will happen?  If the league dramatically cuts the cap and/or cuta what other teams can offer opposing players (already there's a small incentive to stay home) Dwight may have no choice but to stay in Orlando.

I'm thinking Orlando is gonna demand for whoever wants Howard to take Arenas' with him to get rid of that awful contract. Call me crazy but I think Dwight's gonna stay in Orlando

I feel it became pretty clear that Howard is heading out of Orlando one way or another.  Someone who has young talent, draft picks and cap relief or expiring contracts will be the best bet for Orlando.  Much like when we got kg for Gomes, al,theosophy contract and junque.

If the new CBA introduces the "franchise player" tag, then Howard isn't going anywhere.

Lets see we have the expirings the young talent(Green s&t) and that Clippers pick.  We're the frontrunners via trade or free agency.

Bingo.

Orlando has no reason to rush.

No offense taken, I think that deal is probably the best we could do yet some team can probably do better. There will be no laughs from the Orlando front office though, they are screwed for years to come with bad contracts and their best player, THE best center in the league likely outta there...

When I think of bad futures, what team is worse off that Orlando? Makes you appreciate how well Danny did to set this teams future up. We may not have much talent beyond Rondo, but at least we don't have 30-40 million a year in corpses beside him. A Dwight would be nice, but I am happy to look into a future that holds Rondo anda few athletic youngsters and solid role players (Green, Bradley, et al) and a boat load of cap space.

That is an attractive destination for a free agent.

So I was just reading something on bleacherreport.com about moving Carlos Boozer and it kind of made sense.  Chicago could actually be the frontrunner for Howard if it's via trade.  They could potentially give them a package containing Boozer, Noah and Deng.
do it

Why would Chicago do that?

Of course they can get a better package than anything we can offer, but so could Denver with Melo. The key is he will not be willing to extend just anywhere. If we can get CP3 for not much more than Rondo (doubtful but possible I guess), we can then use whatever we have to bring in D12 and feel confident he will extend.

The package isn't as bad as you think. Jeff Green is talented. Avery Bradley looks like he can be an All-NBA defender and above-average scorer, which would make him a complete player (albeit a tweener). The picks will be what they covet most. Although they are not likely to be anything good, they are still picks that they can flip with other players for better ones.

If/when they trade D12, the rebuilding will be a long process. Getting an overpaid fringe All-Star will do them no good, other than overpaying for a good player on a bad team. Getting good players at good salaries and hoping to hit it big in the lottery or swing them in deals for contenders for young talent/picks is what they should do.

They can easily get the Bynum's and Gay's of the NBA, but they will just help them win 30 games instead of 20 and see their top-5 pick turn into a pick in the teens. They still won't make the playoffs.
