Boston send: Rondo - J. O'Neal - 1st 2011
GSW send: Biedrins - Udoh - Curry

Maybe we must add something, but basically this is the trade that i have in my mind. My question is, can Rondo become a shooter? I think that at this point the big three needs a real shooter next to them, someone who can get constantly the open shots that they generate when doubled, and Curry can be this man and a lot more.
The other two are young and athletic and they add depth to our front-line.
GS can get a young star with a ring, who can teach them how to win it and that can bring them to another level.

Rondo could develop a jump shot or at least a respectable 3pt shot maybe; after all Jason Kidd did but it took him a while and he had to really work on it.

If Rondo wakes up and realizes that his lack of shooting skill is hurting us we're gold. He should see that he could still be the Rondo we know today and still take a low amount of shots, high assists but be respected as someone who can hit one, just like Kidd.

I like Curry and all but I don't see Golden State doing this for basically just Rondo and a pick, it would cost a lot more then that. JO is going to retire either during the lockout season or the season after so he doesn't have a lot of value.

The big three need exactly what they get with Rondo on the floor, running the offense and making passes. KG had the 3rd highest TS% of his career, Ray the 2nd highest, and PP (and Shaq) had the highest TS% of their careers. People talk about how hard it is for the guys on offense because of Rondo, when the reality is that they're getting easier shots and better looks at the basket than they ever did. I don't see the point in sacrificing that to get better outside shooting from a point guard.

Getting GS to agree might be trickey but I love this trade for Boston..if it went through we would be better off. Imagine Biedris with KG yelling at him to step it up...we know what he is capable of...he is a monster on D and a rock on the glass. Curry is already all star caliber and Edoh showed enough to realize he belongs in the league at least.

Absolutely .... RR has that nuance. He's so good at putting the ball in the proper spots for his teammates to handle. Curry is an offensive savant, but he's nowhere close to the distributor, leader, warrior,  and defender RR is. RR doesn't shy away from the moment either despite his limited jump shot making skills while Curry has yet to prove himself in a real playoff atmosphere.

I love KG as much as the next guy but we've had a host of players come through Boston and not improve significantly despite playing with KG. You can't expect to get much more from Beidrins than what you've seen so far.

how is curry playing for GS warriors and not a warrior. I know what you mean though rondo makes all his teammates better. Without rondo do people really think the big 3 would be having this effective scoring years

I hear ya on that.  Patrick O'Bryant, Shelden Williams, and Semih Erden all didn't stick despite having KG as a mentor.  I still like the strategy of continuing the trend of bringing in young bigs and seeing if we can't eventually find one that develops and stays with the team.

Personally, I'm still mystified by Danny's decision to give Semih Erden away last year.  To me, that was his worst decision.  Worse than the Perk trade, and worse than not signing TA.  I'm guessing they knew something about either Semih's character, his goals, or his overall health that I didn't.  I loved that kid, and wanted him to remain a Celtic.

Anyway, I'd give Biedrins a try if we could make it happen.  Obviously, I don't like this trade because it involves getting rid of our point guard.  But, there where some other suggestions out there that I quite liked.

He may not be more than what he is.  But, I think that what he does well will count for much more on a team like the Celtics than the Golden State Warriors.

How about sign and trade with GSW(if sign and trade exists in the new CBA) Glen Davis for Reggie Williams?  Simple trade, but we get a guy who can come off the bench and score at the 2/3 position.
do it

I agree with you that we shouldn't give up Rondo for just any point guard with a good jumpshot.  What Rondo can do for this team (or any team you put around him) is very valuable indeed.  I think it's worth noting, however, that in the last couple of seasons it's become increasingly evident that the Big 3 need a better scorer on the floor with them in the starting lineup to supplement their offense (especially late in games when things get tight).

That scoring needs to come from either the point guard or center position -- unless you play small-ball and that scoring comes from a tweener like Jeff Green.  I think the ideal would be that the scoring would come from a guy who can generate baskets inside at the center position (like Shaq did early last season).  That would really balance out our offense and give us a look we've rarely seen in this era.  However, it's very hard to get that sort of player.  It is, however, fairly easy these days to find point guards who have a talent for scoring the basketball, since that seems to be the new prototype for a point guard.

After the Big 3 have retired, I think it will be more crucial than ever to have a player running the team who can carry a large part of the scoring load.  This is not something Rondo can do, nor is it something he has demonstrated an aptitude for.  Yes, you can point to his scoring totals in recent post-seasons, but there's a reason he only plays that way in the playoffs.  It's an unsustainable playing style for him because it requires him to sacrifice so much of his energy and his body doing it.  Bottom line: without a fluid, reliable outside shot Rondo is not the sort of player who can carry an offensive load.

That doesn't mean he isn't a fantastic floor general; he is certainly an ideal point guard to have on a team filled with great scorers.  My main point is that Rondo is no longer as great a fit for the Celtics as he once was because they need things from him they didn't need before as a result of the aging of the Big 3.

All of this is a long-winded way of saying that there are definitely very compelling reasons to trade Rondo for a point guard (or other ball-handler) who can distribute while also creating a large number of shots individually, because the team apparently has a need for that sort of player now, and will absolutely need that sort of player in the future.

I doubt Golden State would agree to this trade: (1) They are giving up a good deal of talent, (2) Udoh is already a solid young player, (3) Some would argue Curry is a better player than Rondo already, (4) Rondo and Ellis cannot play together, and (5) Golden State would then have to trade Ellis after acquiring Rondo.

Take out Udoh and Golden State may think about it, but I doubt it. Curry is already a great player.
