I've been wondering about him and it's nice to know he's doing well and nice to know he's kinda still a Celtic. His injury was such a big loss and it'd be nice to have him back if he's cleared to safely play.

Quote
Though the surgery he underwent March 31 to open space in his spinal canal was considered a success, he looks upon the June 28 meeting as passage back to his career, a signal that he can resume workouts that aren’t limited to an elliptical machine. Daniels hasn’t experienced any numbness since the surgery.

Only the anxiety leading up to that meeting remains. It helps that the Celtics haven’t stopped being like family. Daniels, who had the surgery performed in Atlanta, had unexpected visitors the day after the procedure.

“They had a game in Atlanta that day, and they came up to the hospital,” said Daniels, caught off guard when Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce [stats], Rajon Rondo [stats], Avery Bradley and assistant coaches Mike Longabardi and Tyronn Lue all waked through the door. “I didn’t know what to say. That was kind of a surprise.”

I really like Marquis and his game. And that moment when he fell down was for me a real lowpoint of the season. I felt so bad for him, and also had the notion that "this is it, we are not going to win no. 18 this year".

I would love to see him come back, and while we now have Green as a small forward, he could probably play off guard. And we could play small with him and Green as forwards.

If he is cleared, I would love to see him sign with us for the vet minimum.

I think Daniel's injury had nothing to do with The Trade, other than giving Ainge an excuse.  The Trade was about Perkins' contract.

I really believe that.

If Marquis hadn't went down, I think Danny would've been hard-pressed to make the trade. As a fan, I could speculate all day, but I think we would've kept the meat of the roster.

Looking back, though - we still wouldn't have had a healthy Shaq, healthy JO, nor a healthy Perk.

And looking even deeper - Marquis going down nor The Trade could've helped or explained Glen's almost non-existence during the playoffs - which in turn affected KG.

Or Rondo's injury.

The optimist in me says that even with a 60-70% Perk, Glen being healthy, and a healthy Rondo, we could've taken MIA and CHI, though.

And then? BOS vs DAL? The way Dirk is playing right now? The guy lit us up in BOS and DAL this year...and Tyson would've still schooled an unhealthy Perk.

Sigh.

Just a littany of issues with our team's health these past few months.

I think you read something into Ainge's actions that simply isn't there. He could care less about Perkins' contract if he believed the roster was good enough to win banner no. 18 this year. Noone - including Danny - wanted to trade Perkins, if it hurt the team's chances of winning. But with Daniels gone, the Celtics needed a replacement desperately.

Me too. I think I was in denial before that, but the Marquis thing made me stop and think "Jeez, just about every single player on our roster outside the Big 4 is incredibly injury-prone. There's no way we can make it..."

I don't think the Marquis injury played a big part in the Perk trade; but it did make the decision just a little easier.

Facts:

The Celtics were dominating without Perk.  Assuming everyone was healthy (obviously we lost out on this gambit), both Shaq and JO would get minutes ahead of Perk.

Perk was coming off majory injury and it was unknown how he would perform.  If that wasn't enough he also picked up another injury.

Perk was going to walk at the end of the year.  Now if he was healthy and your preferred starting center then trading him would have been a huge risk; but he was neither of these; emotions aside it was pretty easy decision for the Celtics.

i wish marquis the best

but if he hadn't go injured, i believe perk would never have gotten traded.

The point of the trade was to shed salary cap and find a backup for pierce right?

Marquis was the main person coming off the bench for pierce? so if he hadn't gotten injured, no trade

The point of the trade was a belief that KG and Pierce didn't have enough in the tank to play heavy minutes and a good combo forward might fix that problem.  I really do think Ainge hoped Green would replace Big Baby in the crunch time lineup and provide some energy in the last minutes.

Before Daniels went down, it seemed like Doc had discovered that a small lineup of the Big Four+Daniels was viable against some teams.  It would make sense against a team like Miami when they go with their three, a wing, and a point guard.

I think Daniels also showed that it sometimes takes a player a year before they feel comfortable in the Celtics system.  The team really needs some role players who have been there for multiple years.  I think Glen Davis was relied on heavily in part because he was the dean of the bench.

Because he does have experience with Boston's offensive and defensive schemes, if it is believed he can be healthy, the the Celtics should certainly be interesting in exploring bringing him back.

I hope Marquis comes back for us next season. He was really playing well again this season before that and a big help to that second unit. Also was an under rated defender on Lebron earlier in the season which helped. Sign him up if he has recovered.
