Ok in 2012 Dwight Howard has a huge decision

there is no way he stays with Orlando with that Mess of a roster and the way they are cap strapped...

He knows there is only a few teams he can go to right now that have a chance to compete with the Miami CHeat...

The Celtics have to be on his wish list, have too

If he becomes a Free Agent, how many teams can outright sign him to a max contract and that team be a championship caliber team with all-star players and young all-stars that make it desirable

If your dwight howard in 2012 how can you pass this by

PG - 26 Year old ALL-STAR Rajon Rondo
SG - 36 Year old HOF Vet Ray Allen...signs for the min after Dwight comes on  board to go for a few championships
SF - 34 year old HOF vet Paul Pierce and young and promising Jeff Green
PF - 36 Year old HOF/Unselfish Great Defensive Kevin Garnett signs for near min to get a few more championships
C  - Dwight Howard...Defense - rebounding - Easy baskets from rondo

Coached by Doc Rivers

i really dont see a better place for him to come and win championships

if the lakers trade Bynum and Odom for him, they will just have gasol and kobe with dwight, is that really enough with the way kobe is regressing and mike brown as coach? and no young promising players and no pg? does he love LA that much?

Chicago? would orlando even want Noah and Boozer? they might rather just have capspace, and does dwight want to play with another scoring PG? who have a history of never winning championships and he wont even be the man of the team with mvp derrick rose

Knicks? does he want to play with Selfish All offense No defense players like Amare and melo?

i really think dwight to the celtics in 2012 has a great chance
you said so many wacky things in that post that i don't know where to start!

1.  i can't imagine howard to be excited to play with all those old dinasaurs in 2 years!
2.  lakers wouldn't trade  bynum and odom for howard...they like bynum too much
hey if the celtics can get howard that would be great, but we gotta start unloading our 3 dinosaurs also!

rondo is younger the dwight, and an all-star pg who led league in assists and steals

jeff green is young and talented

the older big 3 can still play at this age and are hofers , who will probably take a discount to play with dwight if he joins the celtics

This statement is somewhat extreme.

"Dwight Howard is the only hope"

"No there is another...."

Howard has a sister?

Anyway, I believe a more realistic destination for DW is NJ in a S&T or an 2011 offseason trade. NJ could offer up a package starting with Lopez. Except for Rondo, Lopez is far better than anyone that Boston could offer up. Plus Howard would be playing with Williams. Both would be motivated to sign extension.

i agree, Dwight Howard is a long shot, but IMHO he's our best option. I don't think the team with the big 3/4 has enough juice to get around a team like Miami.

As for Jeff Green he isn't that good and lets stop with the potential talk please. He's 5 years into his NBA career and he still hasn't found his niche. What exactly is it that he does? Being an athlete is not a skill. I hope that Danny signs and trades him to someone who's still waiting on his break out year.

agree 100% with all this silly "Potential" talk regarding green...he reminds me of a slightly better Deavon George...in other words, he is not a very important player on any championship squad.

I agree. Dwight has shown with his multiple championships that he is the key piece in a championship team… What?! Dwight has gotten early exits every year with some pretty solid pieces around him?! Oh… Maybe we should HOPE for another HOPE.

I would love Dwight on this team and he definitely would be a great piece of the puzzle, but he isn’t coming here. We have nothing that would make us seem any better than where he left. He’s headed to LA if he decides to leave Orlando and we all know it.
Dwight really hasn't that many early exits.

You think he had "nice pieces" around him, but I don't think Jameer Nelson, JJ Redick, and Arenas are very good. None of them can create off the dribble, which is what that team has needed for three years.

Other than his one finals appearance in He has been to the conference finals only once and the rest either lost in the first or second round. They got pounded by the Lakers that year. He also has had players like Rashard Lewis, Vince Carter, Pietrus, Turkoglu, Gortat off the bench, etc. Not a bunch of chumps. Many all-star appearances with them there and as far as Jameer goes, I’d take him on my team any day.

Point is that Dwight on your team doesn’t make you a championship team, even with a couple all-stars thrown in around him. We’d have him and Rondo and possibly one old former star. That won’t beat the Heat. He isn’t coming here anyway though so it really is a moot point.

If Howard is the only hope, the Celtics are doomed.  He's not going to play in a Celtics uniform . . . at least not for a very long time.

How about trading for Howard next season or this offseason?  Just curious - if we found out that we could retain Howard after the season, would you trade Rondo, Jermaine O'neal and Avery Bradley?  I think the money works.

If we can keep Delonte and Arroyo as a backup, our starting 5 would be:

C Howard
PF Garnett
SF Pierce
SG Allen
PG West

We may be able to get a serviceable PG instead of Arroyo as a backup.

I guess this question is 2-fold:

1. Do we have a better shot at a championship in 2012 with Howard instead of Rondo?
2. Who would you rather build around in the future?

I think it is easier to build around a Center, but I figured I would pose the question to the forum.

Delonte is not a starting point guard.

I don't think Jermaine O'Neal is a starting C anymore either...

UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

HOWARD
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Two quick points:

1) Coming to an aging team isn't exactly appealing for Howard.  Maybe he wins one title, but after that, what's his future like with Rondo and him as the core?  It isn't bad; however, if the cap shrinks under the new CBA, they may not be able to add another star to the mix.

2) I agree though that Howard might be the most realistic chance for us to win another title anytime in the next 5-10 years.  And I don't think that getting Howard is all that realistic.  But look at how you win in the NBA: you either get lucky in the lottery (look at the Bulls with Rose, Thunder with Durant, or Magic with Howard) or get lucky with free agents (yes, you have to clear the room, but you have to get fairly lucky that the player chooses you).

With the Heat, Bulls, and Thunder all very young, even if Ainge adds some good pieces to Rondo and Green, it likely won't be enough.  They're either going to have to get lucky and land someone like Howard or they're going to have to get lucky and win a draft lottery at some point in a good draft.  And the chances of the latter are even smaller than signing Howard.

Didn't quite get this. If you're saying that Rondo with a practically useless arm is still a better pg than West I agree.
