Have you ever driven through downtown Orlando? The place is just big posterboard for Dwight Howard's face and body. He's all that city has as a sports star and he is their whole team. Without him, Orlando goes back to the lottery and thinking up ways to bring in more tourists to the theme parks.

Fans probably feel as hostaged as the team does.

If there's one goal the owners should have in the CBA, it should be finding a way to at least slow down stars being able to hold a franchise hostage.  Whether it's the capacity to pay them substantially more.  Or along baseball lines where the team signing them has to compensate their former team.

Not sure what all the lottery talk is about, unless of course they do let him walk and not trade for some value (most likely a package of second and third tier starters). I mean, look at how Denver made out--set up pretty good with youth and quality role players. Still made noise in the West. Why not Orlando?

well NY for some reason got dumb & let thier leverage go they couldve had anthony for free only team i see him getting traded to is LA other suiters for him (boston, brooklyn, clips) will probably wait till free agency smartly to sign him

There's a big difference though.  Dwight Howard's the best center in the league, while Carmelo is a top 3 SF.  There is no one that the Magic can receive in a trade for Howard that will allow them to stay as competitive as they are now.  Carmelo was replaceable while Howard is simply not.  I really think their best bet is to try to wait and hope to resign him and if not try to sign and trade him.
do it

I doubt that sign-and-trade will be part of the next CBA.

I live here now, too. While there are some hardcore fans here - which is great for the city, I find most people (especially the kids in the schools at which I work) like other teams. The Heat are especially popular right now.

As for the theme park thing, there were 51.7 million tourists here last year (#1 in the country), so I don't know that they need work on new ways to bring any more here.

I'll go another (older) direction on this.

  Shaq.

I understand your argument, but where did having the best center in the league get Orlando? A first round exit, just like Melo and the Knicks.
Where did he get Orlando before that?
Howard + Magic = 0 rings
1 man can't do it alone in this league.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
Why do they get so angry? We aren't that annoying.

(Let's get Ainge to trade Big Baby, Shaq, and Murphy for Dwight!...Dwight and a 2013 pick.)
I like Marcus Smart

I agree , they keep getting franchise players and can't keep em .
Oh golly I remember the hate and venom they spat when Shaq  left ......

He'll leave for somewhere and they'll be PO'd again for sure.

Might as well get over it ....unless the NBA does something mighty drastic, I don't see him staying.

Honestly ... LA has the best shot at landing him..no doubt... but its not SET IN STONE anywhere.
