This works on the trade checkers and I think helps both teams.

Boston Trades J. O'Neal

Minnesota trades D. Milicic and A. Randolph.

Why:

For Boston, to get younger and have a player in Randolph who can step in at the 4 and give KG a breather and eventually take over at that spot.

For Minnesota, salary relief. O'Neal has one year left opposed to Milicic's three years, it moves Randolph who is a FA after next year and there is no way they can resign him while also trying to keep Beasley and Love. All three are FA's after 2011-2012. Two players that basically play the same position as Randolph. I know Beasley can play the 3 some....

Now Boston is on the hook with Milicic's deal past what they would like (3 years) but you have to give to get. Additionally, Darko may improve on team that is winner, will demand the most from him and has a coach in Rivers I think he will like playing for.

This seems fair to both teams and doable? Any thoughts?

Short-term, it'd probably be better to have Milicic, who actually shows up from time-to-time over the oft-"injured" O'Neal.

Milicic is a modern-day Mark Blount.  Plays hard when the mood suits him.  How'd that work out for Rivers the last time?  Milicic was on a team who was a winner with similar results to what we see now.

Whether a person likes what Danny has done or not.  With the exception of Marbury, Danny has pretty much de-flaked and desleazed the roster and kept it that way.  I doubt that we'll see Danny take a flyer, particularly with 3 years left on his contract, on somebody like Milicic.

I would pass. Darko Milicic has been shown to be a net negative, below average center (a graph showing how poor per 48 from wages of wins here http://dberri.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/milicicshaq10111.png . Anthony Randolph is an intriguing prospect, but I wouldn't want to tie up salary on an under performing center to obtain him.

I don't think Minnesota gives up Randolph. I believe they are bullish on him.

I suppose Darko might be available. But I'm not sure he'd do well on a championship aspiring team. Too much pressure.

I like this Trade. 2 players that can play for 1 player that can play. Randolph is a great defender and will polish his offensive game learning from KG. Darko is off and on but surely he would be better on Boston with the big three giving him killer looks when he lets up.

JO is still decent but 2 for one and a future all star possibly...a great trade for the future.

I actually like this idea. Darko has been averaging 8-9 points, 5-6 rebounds and a couple blocks the last couple years, and he's still young and has potential that can be brought out with Doc, KG and company. I haven't watched him too much, but from his stats it seems like he's a decent enough defender. The contract is concerning, but $5 mil a year isn't the biggest gamble in the world.

Randolph would be great, a guy that young and athletic at the backup 4 is what we are all looking for, although I'm not sure Minnesota is going to give him up for Jermaine O'Neal.

I'm also not sure if JO will come back to play if it's for a team like the T-Wolves, but who knows. They're looking for a veteran, right?

They may be bullish on him but I see know way they re-sign him unless they let Love or Beasley go. They will not have the money. Something has to give. This trade frees up much needed cap space for them. Particularly if Rubio comes to the US.

Actually, Minnesota is already in pretty good shape cap-wise. No bad long-term contracts, and many of their players are under contracts that have team options or are rookie-scale.

David Kahn loves Darko, he wont trade Darko, I could however see him willing to move Anthony Randolph.

I would love to get Randolph on the C's.
He could help now, with his youth and athleticism
He could help in the future, for when he learns from KG and polishes his skills on both ends.

Neither of those players are good enough to have their contracts effect the salary flexibility in 2012.

His contract expires next season (if not sooner, via buyout). A team looking to shed payroll would find that valuable.

If Minnesota is looking to trade the #2 pick for a young vet (Iguodala, Josh Smith, Granger), then the Celtics could involve JO and perhaps gain a rotation player out of it.

We don't even know if JO is coming back next year, and it's wishful thinking any team would risk trading their starting center given his recent history of injuries. The Wolves are well under the cap, and won't have to lock up K. Love until 2013. From Khan's perspective moving the Flynn contract is what's of utmost importance. Darko is owed roughly $16m over the next 3 years. That's not bad, but it doesn't comport with Danny's cap space planning going into 2012. Don't feel that Randolph fits Doc's style of play either, but he does have a ton of upside. From what we're hearing out of Wyc it's plausible they're aiming to make a much bigger splash than this proposed swap. And that's the challenge. There's going to be a fine line when it comes to skewing younger, but adding pieces that could help win a title next season. Just don't feel this deal moves that strategy in the right direction.

Only way that happens is we include Rondo. Rondo for Love and the rights to Rubio would be interesting, but probably means any hope of winning next year would be over.
