I'm no VC fan, but if the choice is between him or Delonte as first guard off the bench...that's not even a choice.

True although I wouldn't really want him for 2 years. There is no doubt in my mind that he would an absolutely fantastic bench player. He's always asked to be a top player on a team. In Orlando he was basically supposed to be their Kobe or Pierce or something next to Dwight. He's not a superstar and shouldn't be expected to be one but off the bench? That would be some firepower

Vince Carter, the former human highlight reel and current bench player for the Phoenix Suns has stated that when it comes time for him to stop his playing days (which these days consist of dunking occasionally, clearly exaggerating his injuries, and seeming genuinely uninterested in the game of basketball), he would like to maybe give professional bowling a shot. Carter fancies himself as quite the serious pin-jockey and when he bowls, he bowls for keeps.

“When I go bowling, I go bowling. I’m not one for the leisure bowling, like the Lucky Strike bowling to go have drinks and fun. I go to bowl. I can go by myself. I have a bunch of bowler friends who go bowl and have friends at the different alleys that I bowl. I can go there and bowl fours by myself.”
Well, with the NBA potentially facing the same fate of the currently locked-out NFL once this season ends (which for the non-playoff bound Suns, is fast approaching), Carter may be able to get a start on his super-serious second-career sooner than he was anticipating.

“That’s something I’d probably like to try to do once I’m done playing. When I was bowling a lot, I was up there. I’m nothing great. I’m like a 172 average. I watch the bowling matches when I come on TV. Some of my boys are like, “Hell no.” I just enjoy it. I like golf but bowling would be first 100 percent.”
172? If VC wants to bowl professionally, he’s certainly better start practicing…yeahhhh, like that’ll happen.

Well, there’s always golf. Even with little to no practice at that, he couldn’t be any worse than Jerry Rice.

Absolutely not. And it took me only 1 second to decide. The last thing this team needs is yet another aging former star, especially given Boston's track record with the MLE over the last couple of years.

No -- I wouldn't harm the 2012 cap space for Vince.

This is my thinking too. Signing Vince to a 2 year contract would take us out of position to land a max free agent after next season. For that reason it wouldn't be worth it.

This too. Top two needs are size and athleticism; Carter isn't big, and he's nowhere near the athlete he used to be.

I would sign VC for 1 year, absolutely. Guys seriously? You wouldn't take VC over Wafer? That's silliness. This guy playing 15 minutes a game would be perfect with the second unit, like others have said the guy was expected to be a star for the last few years and his minutes were exaggerated.

For the vet minimum? Absolutely. For the MLE? No way in hell.

And I'm a bigger VC supporter than most as my post history suggests - I'm one of, I believe, a few that thinks VC should and will end up in the HOF. But at this point? You cannot invest any sort of significant money into him after the way he played with the Suns.

I just wonder how Vince would accept a lesser role. He has always been a major piece (good or bad) of his team. He has a lot of game, though - especially offensively and we could use his assertive game off the bench. First it was Eddie, then it was Nate. Vince clearly has it on both of them.

I would say that he accepted a lesser role and fit in quite well his first year in Orlando - especially the second half of the season. Even his second season, he was shooting very well without chucking, defending decently well....

And then Phoenix came - when Gentry actually had to tell him that he wanted him to shoot more.

Vince fitting in, I don't think, would be a huge problem....the larger issue is whether the desire and skills will be there. For the vet minimum, it's worth finding out. Anything more than that? Absolutely not.

No.  The athleticism just isn't there anymore.  He's pretty much the opposite of what we need off the bench IMO.  He'd be coming here to die
