Quote
"I think there are a lot of questions that we have to answer," McMillan said. "The first thing is to balance the roster. The combination of the twos that we have — with Wesley [Matthews], Rudy [Fernandez] and Brandon [Roy] — that combination is just… really… there's no way we can play the three of those guys.

"Now that we've brought in Gerald Wallace, Nicolas [Batum]'s contract will be coming up pretty soon. What's going to happen in that situation?

"Our backup point guard, our guard position. I played Brandon at that spot most of the second half of the season. We've got to look at the point guard position.

"And Brandon Roy. How did he come out of the season and what [is] his role going to be?

"There's a number of things I think we have to address. Backup center. Is Greg [Oden]… when will he be ready to go next season?"

After listing off questions concerning both guard positions, the center position and the small forward position, McMillan concluded: "All of those things we will have to look at here before the draft and, if possible, if it is possible to make some moves to improve the team, we've certainly got to do that."

I would love to get Matthews , but just like minny with the # 2 pick, what would we have that they want besides Rondo?

They don't need green and BBD wouldn't land us Matthews

Rudy slots into the Marquis Daniels trade exception.

Would you trade the 1st rounder for Rudy? Would Portland take that?

Batum also fits into the Daniels TE (but not both). But I think Portland would ask for a lot more in exchange.

Rudy Fernandez is definitely available.

I think he is worth a late first round pick and I expect that to be Portland's asking price. That or perhaps a young veteran player (a burly PF perhaps, still a need for that team).

I don't think Boston should give up a first to land Rudy though. Not enough minutes available for him to make it worthwhile.

I had been proposing a 3 team trade for awhile that maybe just got more viable.

Boston acquires Rudy Gay, Marcus Camby
Portland acquires Kevin Garnett, Avery Bradley
Memphis acquires Wesley Matthews, Bos #1

Boston gets a solid young wing and a tough veteran in the paint.

Portland upgrades the paint and gets the firey leader that its young team needs.

Memphis gets a guy used to playing on the bench, a draft pick, and saves a ton of long term money allowing it to re-sign Marc Gasol.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I think if the asking price is a late first round pick, then it makes some sense.  He has had trouble really grabbing hold of a role in Portland, but the talent is undeniably there.  The thought is that he could be a real low risk, high reward pickup, and has as much, if not more potential than anyone you would get with that draft pick.

I doubt they trade Wes Matthews because he's so young.

If there is the contract amnesty thing you can best believe that Roy won't be on the team anymore which would solve there problem.

Luckily they held out on Rudy last year and magically Delonte fell into their lap. It would take more than this year's #1 for Portland to deal him. They might try and deal Miller (team option) in order to make Oden a q/o. Matthews is owed $28m over the next 4 years, so Rudy is expendable. But that ship quite possibly sailed for us last year.

It's different for a guy of his size/age.  I'd take Roy to play 15-20 minutes a game if he'd be willing to.
do it

If we could get him for a price that factors in his injury concerns I would be in. Not for the 16mm he currently makes.
