Watching the lottery drawings and also looking at who's coming out this year.  Wow very happy that #1 the Celtics got isn't coming this year.  There isn't one guy on that list I'd want to blow a top 10 pick on.

Even the 2006 class has one potential Hall of Famer (Rondo)

Unless there is another Rondo hidden in this draft I see slim pickens.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Every draft has it's stud. It's not like in 2006 Rondo was considered a sure thing. This draft probably will stink over all, but a hidden gem or two is pretty much guaranteed.

Who was the "stud" in 2000?  Mike Miller?  K-Mart?  The Vanilla Gorilla?  Magliore?  Turkoglu?  There's a few rotation players in there, but that's about it.  Maybe what, three All Star game appearances from this group, total?

I mean, it's mostly still guesswork at this point, but [dang]....  sucked to have been counting on getting help in that draft.  Not sure if this year is projected to be quite as bad as 2000, and not sure what they were saying about that draft at the time.

Ahh, the Jerome Moiso draft.  The one where the Celtics managed to pick the worst player in the worst draft.  It was like the booby prize of the booby prize grab-bag.

I don't think this year's draft will be as bad as that one, although it could be close.  As long as your goal is "solid regular" and not "future superstar", I think you can get an okay player.  A lot of potential for some decent role players, which, while not sexy, is what we spend the MLE on every year, so it's not lacking value.  That said, it's not the year to have a top 5 pick.

Kenyon Martin was very good pre-injury with NJN and came back to be valuable post injury for DEN.

But I agree clearly no star in that draft. Turk was solid for a few years, but mostly just a good, but flawed role player.

Second round also had:

43    Michael Redd* (SG)

I don't believe Rondo is the best player in the 2006 draft.

Lemarcus Aldridge
Brandon Roy
Rudy Gay
Kyle Lowry
Paul Milsap

Aren't too shabby.

Anyways you'll never really know until these guys are made of until they play on the NBA stage.  More "can't miss" prospects fail than become superstars.

Lowry and Milsap??? Quality rotation guys, but does any basketball person consider them better than Rondo?

Aldridge, Gay, Rondo are really the only guys plausible there. Roy was hands down leader until he destroyed his knees. Actually Aldridge and Gay are both too soft. I'd say Rondo is clear leader.

I don't think so. It is a weak draft but it doesn't seem to be that bad.

Irving and D.Williams give it some star potential + there seems to be a lot of rotation caliber players throughout the rest of the first round.

The main problem with the draft pool is the lack of sure-fire talent in the remainder of the lottery outside of the top two guys.

This might be one of the worst lotteries ever, but the draft on the whole isn't bad.

I think in the Lottery you have 1 blue chip (Irving), 1 sure fire quality player who likely won't be a star (Williams), a few unknowns (the Euros and Kanter), and then a bunch of guys who would be mid to late first rounders in most other drafts.

I think this will be a draft where, if you are not in the top 2 picks, you will have as much chance of success with your pick at 3-10 as you will from 25-35.  There are going to be a lot of guys in the lottery who are borderline rotation players at best, and potentially out of the league in 5 years, and there are going to be a lot of guys later in the draft who will have long, productive careers.

I agree.  I think this is a deep draft just not in terms of top notch talent.  There aren't many superstars, but there's solid rotation players.  This is very good for the Celtics as we have a chance to get a solid contributor at 25.
do it

Aldridge, Gay, and Roy are all on par with Rondo. Rondo has 1 championship thats gonna be your argument against me but Rondo was the worst starter on that team and many would readily blame him if the C's lost. If D Fish wasn't the oppossing PG we might have had a closer series.

But anyways, this draft sucks.

I wouldn't call Jamal Crawford a stud, but he's a good player.

No big men?  To many happy meals.

I was not impressed at all.
