The Orlando Magic have turned away every offer made for Howard and the general message is Dwight Howard is not available in trade at any price.

That's a smart decision for a team under siege.

I know there is still a long way to go between now and free agency in 2012, but this is good news for the C's. The only realistic way I see the C's getting Howard is through free agency ( they already have a very solid young PG who is a borderline all-star, so I don't think a Rondo package would get it done)

I know everyone thinks Howard will be traded to LA, but I don't think Orlando ownership will want to lose another star center to LA . They are going to try to do everything they can to keep him, which is the right thing to do , but it could up benefiting the C's if he reaches free agency.

This is a non-story.  It would be downright criminal for Orlando to be listening to offers before they know what is happening with the new CBA.  Unless they think next year is going to be wiped out completely, and they will miss their window, they are much better off waiting it out, on the hope that the new CBA motivates Howard to stay in Orlando.

I'd assume so, since I'm sure they've gotten offers, and they haven't traded him.  It would be a bigger story if they were negotiating with somebody.

I don't know if waiting it out is their best option; see Melo-DEN-NYK.  DEN was very fortunate that NYK had a lot of useful pieces.  ORL's hand might eventually be forced by LAL or NJN.  The unrestricted free agent holds more power/leverage than the team for sure.

ORL has no cap space and no desireable pieces to trade.  They were only able to get rid of a bad piece (Rashard) by taking one back (Gilbert).  The PHO trade was a step back for them.  With CHI and MIA now rising clearly above ORL in the forseeable future, I don't see Howard wanting to stay.

Also Howard publicly commented about not seeing any extension, when the GM came out and clearly said it's on the table.  That's a pretty strong indication Howard is not interested in ORL long term.

Unless Orlando can find an incredibly stupid GM who will gladly overpay, the team's best bet may be to wait until they have at least two clear suitors willing to bid against each other.

I'm not sure if I understand your point.  My point was DEN was forced to deal with the NYK only or lose Melo in free agency with nothing in return.  A trade with any other team would net them very little assets since Melo would only be a 3 month rental.  Now if your team was to receive Howard/melo for an entire season, they would offer more in a trade.  And we all know DEN really wanted Favors who could be a superstar.
