That’s not to say that Rivers and Ainge always agree. Rivers expressed regret over the timing of the Kendrick Perkins trade during his weekly spot on WEEI yesterday morning.

“Someone just asked if there was something we could have done differently, and I said, ‘Yeah, sure,’ ” Rivers said. “But we couldn’t have done that. Having Perk for the playoffs would have made a difference in some ways, but even if Rondo doesn’t get hurt, we were still going to struggle.

“The difference, if we kept Perk, was that we would have been a No. 1 seed, because we wouldn’t have had that interruption of trying to work in new players. But not having Perk isn’t the reason we lost.

Whatever!  I am done with the excuses!  Especially from a head coach.  Grow up already.

well he said we would have been the number 1 seed with perk.  I'm just saying there is no excuse, we should get the number 1 seed with or with out perk.  Go Celtics.

The only fact is that it was a stupid decision to mess with the team in the middle of the season. You just don't do that when things were going the way they were...

Shaq, JO, Perk, Quis and Delonte were all hurt at the same time, weren't they? Not to mention Semih, who they thought wouldn't hold up through the playoffs. I think Baby missed a few games near then as well. We'd have been in serious trouble without the 25 minutes a game we were getting from Green and Krstic.

We started slacking before the trade, IMHO. The midseason blues, if you will. Also, I have never heard of any team in any sports compettion that has had more injuries in a season than the 2010/2011 Boston Celtics. Seriously. I have followed sports for around 30 years now: soccer, basketball, hockey, football, handball, tennis, skiing, and so on and so forth. I have never seen a team with as many injuries as our C's this season. Just crazy. To use a cliché: Not an excuse - merely an explanation.

We still would've lost with Perk. We peaked too soon. We'll get 'em next time.

Well injuries was apart of it that is for sure , but Perk did not have a season ending injury. Rebuilding team chemistry screwed this team up. They just were never quite the same imo.

Isn't it amazing how changing the location of the bold text can change the impact of simple statements such as this one from Doc? He's saying, "Sure, we probably would have had the first seed, but we still would have lost."

Rivers is correct to a point. It's hard to integrate new faces mid-season.

With that said, I find the notion that Perkins would have made a difference in the playoffs outcome - with his four points and six or seven boards a night - a nice dose of levity in a dark outcome. He's not nearly as talented as some of you demand the fanbase think. Just a role player, who was outplayed consistently by Jermaine O'Neal in our playoffs.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

I don't think that we lost because we were missing Perk but the fact that he was outplayed by JO isn't important. Was he outplayed by the Baby? Because those are the minutes he would have taken.

The Celtics integrate new players just about every year at the trading deadline, including our championship year.

I would add that Perk wasn't playing the 2 weeks after the trade, so Krstic actually helped our record then.

Sorry, Doc, but no, we wouldn't have been.

Not really true.. our starting five in the championship year was intact from start of season to end. Sam Cassell and PJ Brown were almost 'end of bench players' though with a greater impact.
