half court offense is so difficult if guards can't shoot! Thats basic basketball! it's really a simple game, but it becomes so much more complicated with rondo in the half court.
he's such a talent but with such a huge obvious and glaring weakness. drives me nuts as a fan and i just can't get how it doesn't drive the coach and mgmt crazy too.
how many times can we just say "well, if rondo could shoot then..."
and to me, the saddest part is how it hasn't changed in 4 years! It's so painful to watch and continue to discuss! I've had it!
I'm kinda surprised Doc re-upped. I mean, he has to design his team around this huge hole, and one that really should've been fixed 2 years ago!
At this point, i hope he either learns to shoot and does so, or is moved out. I can't stand it anymore!

Have you thought of switching to decaf?

Seriously, our offense is pretty good with Rondo, even in the half court.

When your PG and team can handle that playbook, it is not a problem.

I saw this quote too.

Obviously the coaching staff and GM have known about this for a long time and don't seem to be too concerned. Sure it may have hurt us a bit transitioning new players in but i don't think it's a big deal honestly. Who's to a saya smaller playbook is a any better?

Even if we got a new elite PG we would have to then redesign the playbook so I think it's a moot point.

Red Aurbach says a smaller playbook is better! ! !

Rondo has advocated for a smaller playbook in the past.  I don't have a link but I know it is true.  What Doc is saying here does not make sense to me.  Doc is the coach, and he can't blame a "large playbook" on the pg.

Rondo used a single offensive set to obliterate the Knicks in the second half of game 3 in the finals.  Consider that each offensive set has 4-5 options, and consider that Doc (the coach by the way) decided to give the celtics over 60 offensive sets this season.  Then Doc (the coach of the team) decided to cut this number in half THE DAY before the playoffs began.

In my opinion a good coach would have cut the playbook in half much earlier (the day that "THE TRADE" happened).

In my opinion a good coach would have an offensive playbook much smaller than 60 offensive sets, especially with 4 talented players who can make the most out of even simple pic and roll plays.

I love Doc, but Doc don't pass the buck to the players.  Own up to your decisions, and in the future please please listen to Red when he says "keep it simple".  Find a couple plays that work, and just stick with them.  It's not about how many plays the celtics have, it is how well ALL the players know them, and are able to execute them at break neck speeds.

One last thing, 60 x 4 = 240.  If i was running down the court with Dwayne Wade all over me, and thousands of people in the stands watching, and 240 options in my head, and Doc Rivers raspy voice from some random practice in my head....  yeah, confusion might occur.

I love Doc, seems like a nice guy, but don't blame a talented and smart pg

I love Doc, but I'm just being real.

I've had it too. I love Rondo
But either he goes to Ray Allen camp and shoots 1000 jumpers a day in the offseason, or he's shipped out for a more offensive minded point guard who is still proficient in passing

We need a massive playbook...because Doc Rivers is a control freak who'd rather micromanage a game than let his players use their refined basketball instincts and make decisions in the flow of the game.

This team has been a middle-of-the-road offensive team since Doc took over this team--and that includes both the 2006-2007 (which lost 18 straight) and the 2007-2008 team (which won #17).  The reason?  Doc's shareball offensive philosophy leads to high turnover #s, robs his teams of possessions, and makes them overly dependent on hitting the first 2-point shot they take.

Doc wouldn't need 1000 plays if he'd simply put the ball in Rondo's hands and let him make decisions.  Instead of counting on 5-7 passes each possession (to find the mythical 'best shot available'), keep the ball in Rondo's hands, make 1-2 passes and let your best passers do most of the passing and allow your best scorers to do most of the scoring.
Folly. Persist.
