Rudy Gay believed to be available for the right price(Rumor)

The question that would make Rudy Gay valuable to Boston is if he is athletic to play the 2 every night.  if the answer to that question is yes then I love it.  A line of Rondo flanked by Green and Gay could be very very explosive.

yikes. Pierce is still better than Gay even at his advanced age...

I like Gay, but you can't give up Pierce to get him.

Rudy would be helping this team well beyond next season whereas Pierce is going to be an aging SF who is taking up a huge chunk of our CAP space.  If we're serious about a re-build after next year, this would be a step in the right direction

I'd give up Pierce for a young guy who was worth Gay's contract, but Gay's not worth his contract.  That's just the sort of move Danny has to refrain from making.

I have never been a huge fan of Gay.  I am not sure he is significantly better than Green (and that is not an endorsement of Green).  He is a volume shooter who is soft and doesn't make the most of his physical gifts.  If he is not getting 15-20 shots per game, I have a feeling he would be looking a heck of a lot like Jeff Green.

Unfortunately Gay is not the type of contract the Celtics need in their immediate future so a trade for him is probably out of the question. Danny isn't going to lose that valuable cap space he has coming up in 2012.

Look what cap space has done for Memphis(being able to get Zach Randolph), Miami(nuff said), Chicago(Boozer and company this off season) and New York(Amare which lead to Melo). It doesn't always mean signing the best free agent but cap space makes going from bad to good or staying good a lot easier.

Gay would be a nice addition to go with Rondo and Green but that contract is steep for the talent we'd be getting.  If he could play the 2 well, I'd consider moving Ray for him more than PP since I think PP's got more good years left than Ray.

I'd much rather move Pierce than Ray because it gets his contract off the books and keeps the 2012 cap space.

A duo of Rajon Rondo + Rudy Gay would be very enticing for top free agents (like Dwight Howard).

*WHO IS GOING TO GUARD LEBRON, WADE, CARMELO, STOUDEMIRE AND THEN DURANT* over the course of the ECF.

I can't picture Gay containing Wade or Lebron better than Pierce, and there is no way I want Jeff Green +Gay trying to guard the miami duo for 48 minutes over 7 games. The thought makes me cringe.

Paul is not getting traded unless he demands it, no matter how logical it may seem... His contract was written up knowing full well that we would not be contenders by the end of it. If Danny even considered the idea of using Paul as a legitimate trade chip, he wouldn't have signed him to a 4 year contract
