This thread is an attempt to get everyone to post their ideas for next season's team in one place. Here's my 1st draft:

I still say the big three starts no matter what, they just will get extended minutes on the bench. TJ Ford fell behind AJ Price last year and was looking for a buyout from his final year, 8.5+ mil contract. Reggie Evans is a tough SOB who was playing for 5 mil or so last year before getting a serious injury. Was leading the league in rebounding, is a solid defender but is Perk like on O. Dalembert is the pipe dream, as we are over the existing cap (maybe we'll have a franchise tag in place next season, hopefully) with only 7 or 8 guys signed through next year. I'm sure somebody will come and correct me as my capology skills are seriously lacking, however, we have to field a team somehow, so I'm assuming we're in luxury tax territory no matter what in order to field a 12 man roster.

First, i'd draft the best player available in the draft as a building block for the future. Personally, I love Marshon Brooks,he knows how to score, plays good D and just an overall good playmaker. I think his game will translate well from college to the NBA. Draft Chris Wright from Dayton in the second round.

Trade Jeff Green & Jermaine O'Neal to the Clippers for Chris Kaman, whose contract expires after this year. Kaman is a vast upgrade from J.O., or even Perk for that matter.

Sign Andrei Kirilenko for the MLE. He'll give us much needed hustle and has enough talent to start for us, if Pierce is indeed going to come off the bench. Can play a vital role in guarding LeBron so we can beat the Miami Cheat next year.


Sign Nazr Mohammed and Leon Powe to minimum contracts

Re-sign DWest!

Sign Troy Murphy if he can give you a good deal (like Danny did with Marquis Daniels last year)

Most importantly DO NOT RE SIGN BIG BABY.

I would like to see us have more of a set identity.

This years' team could be big or small, but didn't really have the pieces to excel either way without Perk.

I would build this thing around Rondo and assume that we are moving towards being a smaller, athletic team.

Roll the dice on young, untested players instead of veterans.  Look for the next Wesley Matthews or Landry Fields instead of hoping for the next Bill Walton (a veteran who can be a huge boost....if healthy).  Pack the roster with enough of them that Doc will be forced to play some.

The Celtics won't get a top free agent and probably have nothing that allows them to trade for a lottery pick.  Build a young, hungry, athletic bench and hope someone breaks out as a super-sub.

Above all, hope that labor strife doesn't lead to a shortened training camp.

This is true, but in all fairness, my ideal would have been to keep Perk in the first place and not go for the athleticism angle.

If we had kept the beast and picked up a guy like Corey Brewer at the deadline then we could have slowly pieced things together around Rondo and Perk.

Now I don't know what to do with the big 3.

I would defend my athleticism point by saying just chop the mins down to 20/25 and if they can't keep up the pace then they ride the pine.

I would also add that JO and Posey/Battier don't really fit the equation, but I don't know of better options.

A lot of these ideas are far fetched.

But, I think my head exploded when I read Krstic for D'Andre Jordan.

I like Thaddeus, but I'm not tying up the MLE on a player kinda similar to Green.


But I like the effort, some good ideas, just unlikely.

I don't know what I want the team to do in the offseason.

I want to know Shaquille O'Neal's and Jermaine O'Neal's intentions first and foremost. Are the staying or are they retiring?

Then I'd like to know what Danny has planned with Jeff Green. Is he going to match an offer sheet? Or not? If he does, then the Celtics might as well spend the MLE on a multi-year deal and get the best talent they can get. If he doesn't, then you'll have to live with whoever will agree to come on a one year deal and miss out on the top free agents in that price range.

Celts face the same problem with either Battier or Prince as they did with Posey. Do you want to pay 6.5m in years 3, 4  who will be on the back nine of his career?

Don't know what D. Jordan's trade value is, but I'll assume it's under the MLE. Kristic is a border line MLE and with the new CBA he'll likely be taking a pay cut. Spilter is the more palatable choice with JO as the back up, and another veteran.

Philly will tender an offer to Young, but it may be worth pressuring your rival into overpaying.

Celts must decide on a starting center.  I don't see cap room to lure away Superman. Memphis will sign Gasol.

I see no reason to believe JO will retire. Have you heard anything legit that he is contemplating it?

And with Shaq, it doesn't really matter. If he wants to return, slide him down to 14-15 on the depth chart and hope he can play 12 MPG a month on, a month off until April. If he hangs it up, fine.

Ainge has every intent of keeping Green, but who knows who will offer him what. If it's a reasonable offer, offer, Ainge matches. If someone wants to play games and throw an insane amount at him (doesn't Portland like to do this?), I see Ainge letting him go.

For some reason, I think Green wants to be here, and I think he will be.

I think the MLE has to go to a big. And one on the right side of 30. I liked giving it to 'Sheed and JO, but we need a guy who can beat the opponents up the court, not jogging into the picture.


I think Delonte is an important piece that needs to fall early. Get him wrapped up and we take care of ~28 MPG and two positions. He loves it here and I hope we can get him on a favorable contract.
