I don't buy it. If that player could do it he would have been. There's a reason he played his position and a reason he didn't play another.

See, I think wing positions are fluid and are entirely determined by the personel you have and the defense you need to play. For example, if the Bulls had gotten Lebron this past summer, are you telling me they never would have played Deng and Bron together because neither of them has ever played 2 guard? That they would really keep their two best perimeter players off the floor together? I can't imagine that, especially not with Thibs coaching.
Deng would have been traded

OK, how about this:

The Seattle Supersonics

C: Hakeem Olajuwon
PF: Dave Cowens
Wing: Scottie Pippen
Wing: Grant Hill
PG: Jason Kidd

Bench: Reggie Miller, Wes Unseld

Not a lot of range on those jump shooters (three pointers) or scoring efficiency (TS%) from those players ... with the exception of Reggie Miller.

Looking at Scottie's 94-95 campaign, he was 34% from deep and Jason Kidd's 98-99 he shot 36%. These were not flukes but rather the first years those shots became consistant.  Also, what this team lacks in perimeter shooting, it more than makes up for in transition offense and ball movement. Think of us as the all-time version of the 2011-2012 Memphis Grizzlies.

Pippen is another one of those guys that benefited from the shortened three point line.

Jason Kidd's three point shooting was pretty up and down during the early and middle parts of his career. I would have thought you would have chosen his NJ Nets years when he was an MVP candidate.

I could not agree more ... the long distance jump shooting ability and scoring efficiency were just two of the things that stood out to me when looking at your team.

You can put Pippen & Hill in whatever order you'd like, aint stopping Glen Rice from getting buckets.

Stop this guy?  no way

I had that!

Okay here's the thing about these drafts that I just will never get or understand.

In many a draft I have participated in owners have done exactly what KC is doing and that is drafting a player that his whole career he has played one position and suddenly turning around and saying, he could play this other position or guard this other position.

I don't buy it. If that player could do it he would have been. There's a reason he played his position and a reason he didn't play another.

Some players have played more than one position in their careers. Billy Cunningham, Willis Reed, Paul Pierce to name a few. But others have only ever played one position and I will never understand in these drafts why people think they can play a different position as a starter playing big minutes in these drafts.

So we will agree to disagree whether Pippen and Grant can be a full time SG. They never did it in their careers but if you want to say they can, that's cool. I will just not be a believer in that.

For me, it depends on the guy. If you're talking about an undersized (in modern era) center you want to switch to PF, I'm a lot less likely to buy it.

If you're talking about a super athletic swingman, especially in the modern era, I'm more inclined. That's where the evolution of basketball is going...towards guys who are 6'6 to 6'10 that can play 2,3,4.

like that is always lethal." - Evan 'The God' Turner

I thought so to until I looked at the numbers and in NJ he scored less, gave out less dimes and rebounded slightly better. In short, I was confused why he was an MVP candidate in NJ but not Phoenix. My only answer was because his teams were winning a weak east.

The Los Angeles Lakers, in an attempt to add even more versatility, take Charles Barkley's running mate in PHX:

Thunder Dan Majerle!

He averaged over 38% from deep for 3-4 seasons...is a Two-Time 2nd Team NBA Defender, and can play the SG or SF spots. He will allow us to begin stretching the floor while offering some solid defense on the wings.

Wow - good luck trying to shoot on the perimeter - Thunder Dan, KG, Joe Dumars, and the Glove?

The Supersonics are pleased to select:

And look forward to messing with some blog member's heads by occasionally rolling out a line up of Kidd/Penny/Hill/ Pippen/ Hakeem.
