Unlike, IP though, I think Durant fits in pretty well with this team and liked the pick a lot.

Well Durant surely has a role, and he's a humble and competitive enough guy to accept whatever role was given him on a team full of HOF'ers, so he's not exactly a bad fit. Just not ideal.

The biggest 'missed pick' that I've seen so far is Billups not ending up on the Bryant/Mullins/Malone squad. Chauncey Billups is like the mold that was used to make poor copies of 'Kobe's ideal point guard' that Kobe's played next to in LA. Great pick here.

What does Chauncey bring that Stockton doesn't, other than inferior passing ability?  They were both good scorers, great shooters, and very good defenders.  The only difference is that Stockton had amazing court vision and instincts that Billups lacked.

I really like the Billups pick, but I think Stockton is a better choice in any setting I can think of.

Ideal being Grant Hill?

I liked Hill better on nick's team.  In my opinion, Durant is a bit of a ball stopper.  That's not necessarily a bad thing, but Hill would have been ideal because he'll move the ball as much as he'll attempt to score.

Durant has advantages, too, though (namely, his stellar range and accuracy).

Ideal being Grant Hill. Better 2-way player, still an adequate 3pt shooter

The only downside to Hill is that in what may be his best season (2000), he hurt himself at the end of the year and was hobbled in the playoffs.  If you assume injuries carry over, then he's not a great pick that year.  Of course, his late 90s seasons were pretty darn good, too (and actually featured more rebounds and assists).

I think Chauncey would fare better in a low usage, spot shooting role, and he's 2 inches and 30 lbs heavier, and more able to guard bigger PG's that would exploit Stockton, like Gary Payton.

That occurred to me as well. I guess its gotta be 98-99?

EDIT: Nope, only played 50 games. Hmm.

That's the year I like for Hill today.  Those first few years in Detroit, Hill was pretty sick.

In a 50 game season. ;)

I'd lean toward '97, though.  (His only All-NBA 1st Team selection)

You have Hill starting at SG? He was SF his whole career.

He will be coming off the bench and providing a sharp shooter with range and not giving up too much on the def end. He also provides insurance in that he can be a complete PG in case of injury and spot duty.

I think he's quick enough where that woudln't be much of an issue.
