Yeah, nothing wrong in wasting the last year of Garnett's contract.

Given the limited resources we have to work with, I wouldn't roll any dice at this point.

Also, what I've heard is that the Blazers will try to keep Oden anyhow.

I see.

Would it be possible, what would we have to offer?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I said this in another thread, but I just don't see how the Celtics go out and spend a lot (more than the MLE) on an 'okay' big man, especially with the 2012 offseason looming. What does this leave us with?

I truly think Green will be a lot more comfortable with us next year (I know stats per 36 mins show otherwise, but I think he will be more assertive). Adding a couple of athletic guys to the bench and an O'Neal caliber center is about all we can expect to make another run.

Is it possible we blow it up with the right deal? I guess, but I don't see any more than a few tweaks with the big three re-evaluation coming after NEXT season, and I am okay with that because I was sad watching the last couple of games, thinking it was all over.

Oden is a RFA, so the Blazers can match (and certainly will) any offer we can make. In terms of trades, I don't think we have anything that will be enticing enough.

I think they have to look for players that, statistically, have done well defensively and offensively against Lebron and Dwade. Also, I think it's time Ray becomes the 6th man.

Get J.R. Smith trade BBD for an athlete at C we still have pieces such as JO and Nenad. If you have a lineup of

Rondo/West
Ray/J.R./West
Paul/Green/signing/Draft
KG/Green/Trade
JO or athletic big/Nenad/Shaq if doesn't retire or injured.

Thats a nice team an intresting lineup for me would be

Rondo
West
Smith
Green
an that athlete  ;D

One thing that I really hope is taken seriously is Ainge's hint of moving one of the big 3 to 6th man. I know they might not like it, pride and all, but it would be so perfect...

1- We clearly struggled not having instant offense off the bench. Green is a nice player that scores in the flow of the game, but he isn't really the type to score off iso plays if the offense is struggling.

2- Fresher legs.

Pierce or Allen off the bench would do wonders for this team.

Minor moves seem likely...the MLE is there, resign our own guys, and maybe package JO's salary (if he decides to retire) with BBD to net something decent. The Suns always seem to want to cut salary....wonder if we can offer that for Gortat? That would actually be an awesome move if Phoenix was up for it. In terms of the Big 3...they're here 'til they retire. But it won't be a original Big 3 situation, because the contracts allow us to rebuild in 2012, anyway.

Definitely an end of the roster type of guy, but I think Jason Collins could be a great defensive fit at the 5 for us and can be a cheap buy.

hmm.. I just can't see this team, the way it is now, winning a championship. We need someone who is young, athletic, and a borderline all-star (like Monta Ellis?) and the only way I see us getting one of those is trading one of the Big 3. I don't see anyone who is a FA, and who we could actually get that would make us contenders again.

Become Legendary.

I'd like the Celtics to get their hands on Trevor Ariza. Not sure how to do it though. He would be a great Lebron stopper.
