He's all talk. How do you come into training camp knowing youre a role player and knowing youre going to be backing up Garnett for 20ish minutes a night and claim "you have no idea what youre roll here is." That literally makes no sense. I hope some team greatly over pays for Baby and he starts for a while, then he becomes a bust.
It makes perfect sense if you realize what "role" means. Playing X minutes is not the definition of a role. Also, at that point in time the question was prety legitimate: the previous two seasons we had ask him to adopt two completely different styles of play: first, to be a low-post banger, and then to be a pick-and-pop shooter. And this season he had a third, yet again, different role: post-up isolation guy and designated closer.

In all fairness, he's been yanked all over the place, so I wouldn't be sure what my role was in this case, either.

That whole "role" stuff is total b.s. By this point in his career, Davis shouldn't need a known "role" to succeed; that doesn't affect whether or not he is good at getting rebounds or hitting open jumpers. He just isn't good. 20-10 is laughable, being a starter is conditional on injuries plaguing whatever team he is on, and the whole 6th man of the year possibilities, never really deserved, look further ridiculous. He is what he is at this point, barring taking 2 years off to go through gastric bypass surgery and re-hab his lost muscle from such a procedure.
Oh, but it does. When you're 2 feet from the basket, you're not shooting jump shots. And when you're 15 feet from the basket shooting jump shots, you're not getting offensive rebounds.

He can take his game and his endorsement elsewhere with that starting business!

Quote
Nowadays, Big Baby, who got his name for his size and sensitivity during his elementary years in Louisiana, has a daily regimen of moisturizing, brushing and buffing himself into top form.
Those habits include liberal use of Lubriderm lotion to keep his hands soft. He gets manicures twice a month, and favors - without apology - a clear top coat.

The stereotypical "guys-as-grimy-and-rough" image is outdated, he said.

"My generation is changing. Guys are doing the same things women are doing," he said.

Davis, dressed in a Gino T-shirt, Nike shorts and sandals, grabbed some of Ace’s new manicure tools - fingernail clippers and a nail brush - and began buffing.

"This is optimum playing nail," he said, pointing to the middle finger of his left hand to reveal the slightest slice of white extending from the finger.
He clipped the others around it, talking about them as if he were shooting baskets.
"When you knock down a nail," he said. "Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom."

I still think Baby is going to spend the off-season working on a three-point shot.

Exactly what we need . . . a back-up big man who is moving gradually further away from the basket.
