Though I definitely think getting a 4/5 is a bigger area of concern then getting an off guard, but what do you guys think of Marshon Brooks?  I think he's a fairly interesting prospect.  He's 6'5, but with very long arms.  He's a solid defender, he averaged 1.2 blocks and 1.5 steals per game.  He also averaged 7 boards.  He scored about 25 a game while shooting 48%.  Providence sucked, but he kept them in some games against the elite big east squads.  He dropped 52 on Notre Dame and 43 on Georgetown.  I think he could be a guy who could come in and contribute right away which may be what we need.  As we saw this season, our scoring off the bench was an issue.  I'm not sure Brooks will turn out to be the best player from around where we are drafting, but I don't think he's going to be the worst either.

I personally really like this guy and think he is the best wing player in our draft range. The problem is that I think it would be a reach to take him with our 1st, but he definitely will not drop to our 2nd. I think if Danny doesn't like any bigs when we pick, it would be smart to trade to trade back and get him.

I think it would be trading back less than 10 picks though.  Most people have him in the first 5 picks of the second round from what I've seen. I don't think it be that big of a stretch to pick him at 25.  Maybe we could buy a pick early in the second round to get him, I don't know.  Obviously it's very early, I think this kid could easily play his way into the 1st round at workouts and camps.

I've proposed him as an option in several other draft threads.  he's first round material -- probably be gone by the time we draft.

I think this team has 2 major needs for next season (depending on the extent of the overhaul in the offseason).  first is a rebounding machine that can play the 4/5 and the other is a sg/sf that can score, particularly around the rim.  Brooks fits the scorer slot pretty decently for where Danny will be picking.

This is what I would like. Not only could probably get an exta 2nd pick outof it, contact wise we would be in a better situation.

I haven't seen him, but he does sound intriguing (and they could certainly use another true SG).  I have a few questions though.

Can he catch and shoot?

How is his handle?

How quick is his release?

Watched marshon play all 4 years at PC, he is extremely overrated.  Has poor ball handling skills and never looks to pass.  He's not a winner, he is only a scrub that will score a lot of points for a bad team.

He can definitely shoot off the catch and his shot off the dribble is very good.  His handle's solid, it's not as good as your elite off guards in the league, but he's right on par.  His release isn't Ray Allen quick, but it isn't slow either.  His long arms help make up for it though as he really gets up high when he shoots.  he's got a great first step which helps him get to the rim and he's a very good finisher at the rim.  He does a good job of controlling his body.  He did turn the ball over a little too often, but he had the ball in his hands so much because of how bad the rest of providence was that I don't think its a major concern.  His potential as a defender is also very interesting.  He's very long, his wing span is in the 7 foot area(nothing official until the combine obviously).  He averaged 1.2 blocks a game and 1.5 steals a game.  He also pulled down about 7 boards a game.  It's really tough to judge him since he played on such a bad Providence team and he had the ball in his hands so often, but he definitely has NBA game and an NBA body.  I would want size first, but if there's no size available I feel like this is a guy who could come in right away, be a scorer off the bench and maybe be your Ray Allen replacement.

Ridiculous. Brooks will be a star in the NBA.
I also watched him play every game. His ball
handling skills are phenomenal, so is his shotmaking
and attitude. The only reason why he didn't share the
ball as much as an average player is that HE was the
only factor which made PC win games. Everytime he
distributed the ball, PC fell behind. He was a stud
playing with scrubs.
Brooks will be a star.. watch.

Chad Ford reported, on his twitter account, that Marshon Brooks wingspan measured 7 foot 2.

Wow, even longer than I expected him to be.  His body type is similar to Nick Young, but he does a better job of using it.  He used his long frame to rebound, he used it to help out on defense.  His defense disappeared at times in college, I'm not sure if it was a fatigue thing as he was their only option on offense.  Obviously that will change in the NBA, he isn't going to have to take 18 shots, have the ball all the time and exert all his energy into scoring to keep his team in the game.  He has NBA range, he shot 34% from 3 this year, but it was so streaky.  Some games he went 0-8 other games he'd go 6-10.  I would like to see him become more consistent there, but for we're picking, everyone is going to have some sort of flaw or red flag.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
This guy looks for the shot before pass every time.
Would need some serious work to get him as a offensively effective in the NBA.

He's also deceptively fast. He often looks slow because he's so lanky and long but might be a good pick up deep in the first round.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

All I'm saying is that if you guys really think he is that much of an elite scorer than the friars would have won more game because of him.  He's also not a character guy.  I give him 3 years in the NBA tops before he heads over to europe.
