LA has the chips and the desire to get him.

Brooklyn does too.

The question becomes how much control does Dwight have over this situation and where would he want to go?

Both major markets.

LA has the better shot at winning now but BK probably is in better shape to build for long term success with some cap flexibility.

Who would Dwight want to play with? My guess would be Deron Williams over Kobe/Pau. There is something real to the generational gap that exists in the NBA. The new blood is just so different from the old guys. Im actually not sure Dwight could handle Kobe's style of "leadership".

Im not really answering anything here I can see that. Of course I want him in Celtics green but what the heck do we have to offer?

Unless Dwight lets his contract run and we have a crack at him in FA I dont see us getting him.

What are the chances he doesnt get traded?

I guess I asked more questions than attempting to answer. Sorry!

He might actually stay in Orlando and try to recruit Chris Paul.  But, he'd be wise to move to a better run team with more cap space.

I REALLY hope he doesn't go to the Lakers.  W/O Dwight the Lakers will be left with Kobe taking up 50% of their payroll (once the NBA adopts a hard cap) for the next few years.  It'll bring a big smile to my face watching Kobe wallow away in mediocrity!!

I think this is the rare situation where it really isn't so much what Dwight wants, as what Orlando wants. Dwight wants to go to a contender I am sure, this rules out NJ so he would probably be happy with Boston or LA, probably leaning more towards LA where he can be a big star and of course the weather and whole scene doesn't hurt. However, Orlando has really screwed themselves financially for quite a while with the Gilbert and Turkoglu contracts, they are pretty much locked into not winning a championship until those contracts expire. This is where the question becomes what does Orlando want to do? Do they want to take back Bynum or Gasol or both in a trade and be even more financially strapped for a team that can't win. Do they want to continue spending like crazy with no chance of winning, just to keep some fans going to the games?

Hopefully they would rather take a package of Ray and JO straight up for Dwight, both contracts come of the books after next season. Now if they were going to do this, then they could just let Dwight opt out and it wouldn't cost them anything. However, if they were to do this trade early in the season they could then buy out Ray and maybe JO and save a lot more money, thus allowing Ray and JO to return to the C's. This of course is what benefits us the most, just depends if Orlando wants to trade early in the season to save the most money by buying out Ray early.

As a GM I can't see wanting to add more salary to that team, especially when Bynum and Gasol are players that are looking like they might not be worth their pay.

Another thing about Brooklyn, as Jason Kidd, Lebron and Carmelo have mentioned, it's hard to commit to a team that is hopefully moving soon. No one wants to play in NJ they all want to play in Brooklyn. I live within walking distance of the new stadium in BK, and let me tell you it is nowhere near completion. Construction did pick up when Mikhail Prokhorov bought the team but it has since pretty much stopped. Most of the time I see the site, there is no one working on it, the skeleton hasn't changed for quite a while.

I wouldn't say that Bynum and Gasol are looking like they don't deserve their pay.  Let's not forget that only last year Gasol was basically the MVP of the post-season for the champion, and this year Bynum was the Lakers' MVP for most of the second half of the season.  Bynum is still very young and I'm sure Orlando would be happy to get him in return for Dwight.

Also, I disagree that NJ is not a situation Dwight would want to go to.  No, they aren't contenders right now, but they would instantly become contenders if they got Dwight to couple with Deron Williams.  Also, before long they will be in the newest, nicest arena in the league in the middle of the biggest market in the country.  They also have one of the richest owners in the league who has demonstrated a willingness to spend to win.  These are all things that Dwight appreciates, I am sure.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

I can't see Orlando trading Dwight early.

They are going to try and take advantage of every moment they have between now and D-day ... to try and convince Dwight to stay.

So I don't think we'll see any Dwight trades until near the trade deadline next season. Just a whole lot of speculation from the media ... all summer long.

The question becomes how much control does Dwight have over this situation and where would he want to go?

Dwight Howard's main leverage is that he can say that he will only agree to a contraction extension with certain teams, maybe even only one team.  Consider what happened with Carmelo Anthony.

Dwight has less leverage than Carmelo because the Knicks could have had cap room to sign the superstar as a free agent, while Howard can only get to LA via trade.

Given Boston's relative lack of trade assets, the Celtics getting Dwight Howard may hinge on showing a greater willingness than other teams to find a way to also take on the contract of Gilbert Arenas.  Who wants Howard if the price is also acquiring Arenas?

the only way he's going to boston is if A.he wants to go to boston then he'll probably just wait out the last year

if somehow danny wants to deal for howard (which is probably impossible) would be that howard would only sign with us therefor danny can offer something like this

Orlando gets KG(exp contract)ray allen(exp contract) & jermaine oneal(ex contract),sacaremento pick, clevland pick, clippers pick,& probably 3 boston picks(i also think we have another pick from sacremento from the sam cassel & Patrick o'bryant deal so we can add that too)glen davis s&t,jeff green s&t

Boston gets: dwight howard & gilbert arenas ,hedo turkaglu &quentin richardson

1 can only hope they buyout ray & KG (& heck even j.o he deserves it) so they'll save even more money on the exp deals so they can come back to boston

ONCE AGAIN THIS IS PROBABLY IMPOSSIBLE THAT ANY OF THIS WOULD HAPPEN SO PLEASE DONT TROLL

but like i said if he wants to come he'll probably have to wait his last year out & come free agency becuase the deal i explaned is probably the only one orlando would read without sending us a F U right back lol

danny would only do this is the guys were coming back via buyout becuase it crews us financially for the next few years

Hmm, maybe (just maybe) New Orleans wouldn't do that trade  ;)

Depends on the new CBA and if there is a franchise tag...

But, in general, whoever is willing to take either Arenas' or Turguglu's bad contracts.
