Listen I will say i believe in this team until the buzzer runs out on them.buttt doesn't hurt to look to the future. I am saying we need to get Dwight Howard as soon as this season ends, hopefully there wont be a lockout so something can happen but we really need to keep the Lakers from getting him. All signs look to be him leaving Orlando very soon. He has gone to say "Orlando is pushing me out like they did Shaq." So who better to mentor him on that then Shaq himself. I know I make is sound really easy but the Celtics need to go after this guy hard. I would love to do it without Giving up KG or Pierce. Other then that everyone else is able to go. Now saying that it would be so hard for me to part with Rondo or Ray leaving but if it meant bringing in the likes Of D12 then i'm all for it. Also getting Dwight means probably getting Cp3 in the next off-season. I mean could you imagine the stuff D12 could learn from Shaq and KG? Or the defense of KG and D12 down low?? Please danny do what you do best and shock us all by getting this guy in here!!!

I love Dwight as a player, but I'm not sure of his Will to Win.

Just the fact that he is considering LA or NJ illustrates this for me.

Yes - of course I'd love him in Green if it came to that. But I think the lure of "Hollywood" is too strong for him.

The shocking and unpopular choice for him to make would be to come to Boston in 2012 and join up with our 1st Team All-NBA defender in Rondo, and a winner in Paul Pierce, who will still be around but wlll be at the end of his career.

Rondo is not even in his prime, yet - and he is seemingly developing some confidence in his J.

I'm holding out hope that KG and Ray would still be around, too.

But I fear the Bright Lights will be too strong for Dwight to overlook, and that's why I can see him going to Hollywood barring a trade before then.

I think he is get-able if the C's trade Rondo away, or if the C's are willing to take back a bad contract. The ultimate bad contract in the league is of course: Gilbert Arenas... man $62 more million over 3 years...

It just depends on how much the C's want to get him, and Howard's willingness to resign.

If acquiring Dwight Howard meant also taking on Turkoglu, I'd do it.  He's not as good as he was and he's getting pretty long in the tooth, but he's still a good player, would fit in at both SF and PF, would provide some shooting.  Presumably a trade for Dwight would mean trading KG and/or Ray (along with Rondo, I would guess), so we'd need someone to shoot the ball and someone to play the PF.

If acquiring Dwight Howard meant also taking on Arenas...  I would probably pass.  His contract is just as long as Turkoglu's (through 2014), but it averages about $20M per instead of $11M.  That's killer...  and Arenas is just a brutal player nowadays.

I think the only chance Howard comes here instead of LA or NY, is by us selling him on playing WITH Rondo - so Rondo can't be in a deal. Dwight could average 30 on dunks if he played with RR.

But without trading Rajon, I'm not sure if we have enough to make it happen. Would they even want any of the aging vets? Would we trade Pierce? A deal of Green, Baby, picks, is not enough.

Orlando's GM has said that they would rather let Dwight walk into free agency than trade him if he doesn't sign the extension. While I don't believe that to be true, there is little doubt that Orlando will force the receiving party to take Gilbert Arena's terrible contract.

Also, don't expect a Howard trade soon. They will likely milk him and milk the offers all the way until the trade deadline.

The only way LA can get Howard is to trade for him this offseason. Otis Smith is an idiot, but even he's not that dumb (I hope) to trade Howard for a package less than Gasol AND Bynum, which I doubt LA offers, anyway. My guess is, Howard will be a FA, and we'll be one of only a few teams with cap space to offer him a big deal, and maybe the only one where he could come in and be a title contender immediately, assuming we keep Rondo, Green, Pierce, and maybe sign KG/Ray to small deals to end their careers in Boston.

To have enough $$ to make that happen, Jeff Green would have to be playing for minimal dollars, and the rights to KG/Ray would have to be renounced (like Miami did with JO and all of their other free agents last summer).  You'd be able to resign KG and Ray, but only with whatever cap space was left after signing Dwight or at the vet minimum.

I dont see Dwight Howard coming here. The reason has nothing to do with basketball or if Rondo is his pg or who ever else in on the team. This is about endorsments and money. They two biggest markets for that is LA and NYC. Heck it is rumored that Shaq hasn't even touched his NBA money and lives of his endorsement deals. If he wanted to win championships he would go to OKC where the core of  Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka, Perk and Harden are young and capable.

I'd love to see Dwight in Boston but I'm not holding my breath. Its definately a long shot. Just curious, I know Marc Gasol is probably going to re-sign with the Grizzlies, but does anyone know if we have the cap room to sign him considering the money he wants? I would love to have him here

we have no talent to offer orlando tho to make a deal regardless
I would be willing to take 1 bad contract, I think Danny would as well.  ;D
i mean rondo? rondo & jeff? we would have to promise dwight we'll get cp3 so how do we get cp3? if he already has his mind on NY & no longer the rondo asset to trade for him to n.o

makes no sence ,we have a better shot getting cp3 straight up for rondo & THEN signing dwight in the offseason

IF cp3 agrees to resign long term with the celtics which is highly unlikely the way the nba is is looking chris paul is going to new york to join melo & amare

The management appears to be doing everything possible to diffuse the notion that the Celtics will be targeting Dwight Howard. Which makes me think the Celtics are absolutely positively desperate to land Dwight Howard.

Teams trading superstar players rarely get equal value.  That is a given.  And since howard seems to be putting smith between a rock and a hard place, then he will probably have to settle for what he can get.

In a trade between la and orl, Bynum is a given (and would be a very good get for orl).  I am not sure orl can do better than even that already.  But if they insisted, then they might be able to pry away odom as well.  I am thinking that is about as good as they will get.

If smith decided to trade howard, then there is no way the celts can get him.  We will have not tradeable assets really.  None.  And if howard makes it to FA, I still see little reason for him to come to Bos.  Howard would have better options in NY (DWill) than here.
