Sorry but truth be told I think most people wanted him gone or didn't care. I wasn't a fan of this game than and I'm still not. Very low basketball IQ guy who tried to do too much.
I watch a little of the first quarter last night and saw TA bring up the ball on a fast break and he still has no handle.

Anyway, we can do what ifs all day and night but it won't change anything. Tony Allen is not walking though that door.

I'm a huge Tony fan, but he isn't shutting down Durant.

In the Spurs series there wasn't that specific wing guy that Tony "needed" to stop. Manu still managed 20/4/4 with a bum elbow.

Because there was no superstar wing on the Spurs it made it that much more effective for Tony to roam and wreak havoc within the passing lanes.

For us, Tony would be in the same boat PP, RA, and Jeff Green are all in...getting abused by the two best wing players in the league.

... none of this would be happening.

think about it

Probably true.  If we re-sign Tony, it's not a huge deal when Marquis gets hurt, and there's no reason to move Perk.  We go into the playoffs with Perk + Tony, and our defense, intensity, rebounding, and intimidation are all improved.  We'd still have our swagger.

I wasn't particularly sorry to see Tony go, but there's no doubt that he'd help this team right now.

I think we still trade Perk for Jeff Green.  We were losing Perk, and Danny wanted to get value.  Remember, he thought Shaq would be back well before the play-offs, so Perk was pretty dispensable.  And Jeff Green was going to fulfill the Posey role (how I wish), not the Tony Allen role.

[dang], that quote really hurts my heart.  He wanted to be hear, be a Celtic.

Moving him and Perk changed this team's entire identity.  Just look at what he's done for Memphis' defense off the bench.  It's incredible

Yeah.  Like I mentioned, I never loved Tony much when he was here.  When Danny said "it wasn't about the money", and Tony came out and said he wanted more of the spotlight, I took that to mean that Tony ditched us.

To hear that he would have gladly signed here for the same contract, and that he truly was a Celtic at heart kind of stings.  I can't be a total hypocrite and fault Danny too much for passing on Tony, but in hindsight, it hurts.  Tony would have been a huge help this season, and he most likely would have kept Perk in green.
I've said this before yes we were outplayed but a big part of this does go back to not keeping Tony who would have slowed Wade not one person on our team can guard him, and the trade that just destroyed this teams identity and psyche which led to costing us homecourt in the process.
"7ft PG. Rondo leaves and GUESS WHAT? We got a BIGGER point guard!"-Tommy on Olynyk

Last year he stopped both of them and Kobe Bryant...Kobe shot like 14% with Tony on him

Unless Tony Allen (or Perk for that matter) can create shots against the Heat defense, I don't think they would have made too much of a difference the last couple of games.

The C's need to get on the same page offensively, and the defense will come when they stop turning the ball over, and giving up long rebounds after bad shots.

Defense leads to Offense. Celtics couldn't stop Miami's offense. And if you don't get stops, you lose the game.

tp for first quote
2nd quote, I need actual proof of that, as i remember it allen didn't slow wade down at all it was ray doing the good job and without doubt it was pierce on kobe
tony has the skill to be a defensive stopper but marquis did just as good a job defending 3 different posistions

To be fair didn't Tony say a couple months prior to the end of the season that he wanted to play in Boston for the rest of his career?  No excuse for Ainge letting him go.  Even if it was 12mil over 2yr instead of 3.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I completely agree. Anyone else remember what a great job Allen did on Wade last year. . .

Paul and Ray get really tired having to guard LeBron and Wade with no relief. Tony Allen could slow both of them, it enabled the Celtics offense, and he had no fear. Tony Allen had been tough on Wade going back to their first years in the league and even college, if I remember correctly.

Unless Tony Allen (or Perk for that matter) can create shots against the Heat defense, I don't think they would have made too much of a difference the last couple of games.

Exactly - and THIS is the failure of Ainge. With both the Tony Allen move and the Perkins move, Ainge sacrificed the ability of the Celtics to win a title this year to make the Celtics a better mediocre team in 2011-2012 through 2013-2014. What he should have been doing was getting ready to win THIS YEAR, since it was the last year of the window before the lockout.

Wade's playoff games last year vs. Boston:

Game One: 40 minutes, 11-18 shooting, .611 pct
Game Two: 37 minutes, 11-18 shooting, .611 pct
Game Three: 43 minutes, 14-26 shooting,   .538 pct
Game Four: 43 minutes, 16-24 shooting, .667
Game Five: 46 minutes, 10-24 shooting, .417 pct

Average for the series: 41.8 minutes, 12.4-22.0 shooting, .564 pct

Tony Allen's minutes in that series decreased steadily, starting at 29 minutes in Game One, down to 17 for Game Two, 14 each for Games Three and Four, and 9 minutes in Game Five.
