You do realize that the three times we beat the heat during the regular season were without Perk, right? Tony Allen has been a tremendous surprise for Memphis, as there is no veteran wing superstar for him to feel obligated to defer to anymore.

This is what really cost us our season: injuries and old age.

Shaq goes down and never comes back right.

Semih Erden's shoulder injury led us to trade him.

Marquis Daniels' paralysis led us to trade him.

Nate Robinson had season ending surgery as soon as we traded him.

Listen, blame our problems on anything you want to, but don't blame this season on Danny Ainge. Remember that the only reason we are even in the playoffs is because of his fantastic miracle trades in the summer of 2007. It's been a good four year stretch, but our guys are old...we expected three years of dominance and contention out of this team, and that's what we got. This year has been a pleasant bonus.

And on a bright note, Danny's recent frugality and draft pick acquisitions are going to be the main centerpieces that people look back on and appreciate someday when we have successfully rebuilt and extended our basketball relevancy into the next decade.

As for me, I look forward to watching us get younger for a little while again. Sure, perhaps we won't be talking about championship possibilities for a few years, but we'll get to watch young talent develop and watch Danny swing deals for legitimate talent again. On a side note, it will also be nice to get rid of fair-weathered fans who didn't give a crap about the Celtics before the Big 3 were brought together.

I remember a lot of things that most fans these days don't remember, and that is that there are ups and downs with every sports team, and you just have to be consistent with your fandom. You can't start panicking and turning on team management and the players when things get rough...you just gotta keep believing.

I remember when ainge first got here and "grades" were going out.  I put incomplete or something to that idea because his grade could be a C or an A when it was all done.  Same thing this year except it would be a B to A.  I think the trade was great.  Anyone notice how spur like the team looked last night, the big three looked old.  We are going in to next year with cap space, rondo signed and possible future guys, delonte, green and oneill(s).  We got maximum value in the trade imo.  Nate probably would see little court time if healthy, perk has turned into posey myth like status, good low post defender, fair rebounder, good shot blocker otherwise ?

I think Ainge will have a few more years. But after a few more Vin Baker, Raef LaFrentz, and Brian Scalabrine (remember how his brain type was supposed to be like Jordan's) signings after the Big 3 retire or move on, it will be even worse than before.

By even worse, what I mean is that since the Celtics will have Rondo (and presumably, Jeff Green - since if the Celtics do not re-sign Jeff Green the Perk trade becomes a 100% waste) they will not be bad enough to get a really top draft pick.

Ainge will do solid work in the draft and the Celtics will sink back into utter mediocrity, if not slightly worse.

He pretty much has a job for life here.

Blame him if you want for the trade, but don't forget about last summer when it could have been so much worse.  He brought in Shaq and J.O. when we had no center and they are proving to be the two best available free agent centers out there.  Danny got BOTH of them.  Shaq for the minimum too.

Also he picked up Delonte pretty much for free, kept Marquis for what seemed like a good deal at the time.  Wafer, a 20 pt scorer in Houston, signed for the min and has been solid when given the time.

Oh, and he re-signed Ray, Paul and Doc over the summer.

He can't be blamed for Miami signing three all stars in their prime, two of which are MVP caliber.  He can't be blamed for giving one more shot with a team that's a little old.

While it sucks that they're losing right now, they haven't lost.  They lost two road games, which isn't the end of the world.  They still have a shot.

And still, isn't this way more fun that the season being over and worrying which draft pick Wallace or Pitino is going to screw up?

It would take a lot for Danny to be let go and I see him being just fine for at least a few years. I think he'll make some moves and do the right things in the off season. I'll say however that it will be through trades and free agency because he has not been known as a guy to keep and develop draft picks.

Can we change Ainge to Rivers?  I think Ainge is safe.  Though the trade hasn't been all that good, I'm not sure Perkins would be helping us enough.  Also, if Ainge knew that Shaq was going to get hurt again, I don't think he makes it.  On to Rivers, I know it's an interesting subject here.  Something people love him, some people hate him.  The players love him, which is always a good thing, but I've never seen a coach with worse rotations.  I just can't stand a line up with 4 or 5 players off the bench.  You have to keep 2 starters in at all time.  I know it's tough when Jermaine O'Neal is always in foul trouble, but he needs to find better match ups.

As much as we mocked at the time, their little locker room cry a few months ago seemed to be a turning point, and they have played well ever since.

In other words, the Celtics aren't losing because they are playing poorly because of some psychological damage or reduction in talent thanks to the trade, the Celtics are losing because the Heat are playing better than they did in the first part of the season.

Think about it this way.

Do you think RC Buford's (the Spurs GM) job is in trouble?  We haven't won a championship since '08, but he hasn't won one since '07.  And they got eliminated in the first round to a team nobody expected to win.  At least if we lose it's to  a team the majority of the "experts" thinks is going to win it all.  He's held on to a collection of aging stars just like Danny.  You know he ain't going anywhere.

Or do you think Joe Dumars (Pistons GM) job is in trouble?  He last won a championship in '04, and has made several MAJOR mistakes in his tenure, and currently has built a team with no hope of doing anything.  They're not winning, they're not rebuilding, they just stink.

GM's aren't fired like coaches are.

Danny's only leaving if HE decides to quit, or one of the things Roy mentioned (embezzlement, sexual harassment, gambling against the team, or other severe criminal conduct).
